Ralphs %%%%%'s Rate Growing Post

Today we had to do part one of a two part post.

Define ratio

Ratio: Compares two things of the same quantity.

eg. 3:4 7:8

Rate: Compares two things measured in different units.

eg. heartbeats : seconds

Questions:

4. Determine the unit rate in each situation.
a) An orca swims 110 km in 2 h.

2h / 2 = 1h 110 km/2 = 60 km 60km/h

b) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h.

12.5 h / 12.5 = 1 800/ 12.5 = 64 64km/h

c) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min.

30min x 2 = 1h 45daffodils x 2 = 90 daffodils 90 daff/ h

10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in
3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is
the faster cyclist? How do you know?

They are both going at the same speed because if you divide 84 by 3 you get 28 and if you divide 70 by 2.5 you still get 28.

Coin Question

If the jar was Canadian, worth 100$ and had 460 coins, what would be the unit rate for each dollar?

Answer:

$ Coins
_____________
$100 460 coins
/ 100
$1 4.6 coins rounded 5 coins

Part 2

I dont know why but, my image won't go on to my post so I'll just do the work anyway.

To find ingredients for 10, you need to multiply the recipe by 2.5. 4 x 2.5 = 10

Recipe for 10 people.

1 1/4 lb ground beef

2 1/2 medium onion diced

2 1/2 celery finely sliced

2 1/2 clove of garlic

35 oz can of tomatoes chopped

1 1/4 can of tomato paste

3 3/4 tsp basil

2 1/2 tsp oregano

2 1/2 tsp sugar

1 1/4 tsp Worchestershire Sauce

1 1/4 tsp seasoning salt
