Scribepost Feb. 17 2010 Foldable

For the foldable we had to write and do everything in the Key Ideas

Key Ideas

- A mimimum og three views are needed to describe a 3-D object.

- Useing The Top, Front and side views you can build or draw a 3-D Object.

1. Raina is sists that you need to tell her all six views so she can draw your object. Is she correct? Explain why or why not.

A) shes wrong becasue you only need 3 sides becasues two sides are always equal.

2. Are these Views corrrect?

No becasue the from what the front view tells me, the top should be the bigger shape.
So the side view is supost to be the top.

Thats all for today.

YOU WRIGHT THIS IN THE SECTION:

5.1 VIEWS OF THREE DIMENSIONAL OBJECTS

Scribepost Questions 5 and 8.

For scribe post we had to pick 3 questions so i decided to pick numbers 8, and 6.

6.
For number 6 we had to find out the discount price of the second week. the fist week it is 50% off. the second week is 10% off of the first weeks discount. your starting price is $85.

So first i went:

50% off of $85 =$42.50
To get the answer I just went: 85 /2 = 42.5

so now that i have my price of $42.50 i can just take 10% off of that witch equals = $34

Another way i found the answer is I just found 40% of $85.

85/100= o.85 x 40 = $34

The total price they had to pay is $34.

Question #9
Tina wants to construct a path along the diagonal of her yard. What Length will the path be? Express your answer to the nearest tenth of a metre.

a 2 + b 2 = c 2
6 2 + 12 2 = c 2
(6x6)+(12x12) = c 2
36 + 144 = c2
The square root of 180 = the square root of c 2
13.4 = c

The length of the path is 13.4 m

sooo yeah comment =)

Layton's Pay It Forward

Part 1

What pay it forward means to me is, insted of paying somone back for something they do to you, you pay it forward too somone thats needs it. To pay it forward means to pass a favor on and change someones life and they will change somopne elses and so on. paying it forward means to change one persons life at a time and about changing the world.

Part 2

For our pay it forward assignment we went to the salvation army and donated clothes. After that we went to Polo Park and handed out 75 holiday cards to random strangers. We chose to do that because we wanted to do more than 1 thing and we were happy to do two. I help by makeing the christmas cards and i broght cloths to donate. We did our act of kindness on thursday because that was the only day free.

Part 3

Are act of kindness went realy well becacuse there was alot of nice people in to the holiday spirit exept for some people were realy mean they would look right at us then just walk right past.
after we were done i felt realy good that we did somthing nice for other people. Some people were realy nice and very thankful but some people were very mean and disrespectful. When we gave each person the card we said to pay it forward. They said i would love to and stuff like for sure but some people said maby.

Part 4

I think that paying it forward is realy important because if we can change the world life will be better for everyone in the world. I think are pay it forward made a diffrent because i think that when people saw are acts of kindess they thought about how nice that is and mabny they sould do it.

Scribepost for December 3 2009

Today in class we did some questions like this one.

For this question we had to find out if 54 is a perfect square. at he end we ended up finding out that is is not a perfect square. we use prime factorization to find the answer with the diagram in the picture too the Left. ta da.

I'm sorry for the fuzzy picture but if you cant see it it says:

The gym teacher told the students to run twice around the school field. The area of the SQUARE FEILD is 28 900 m2.
What DISTANCE did the students run?

First what we did we found out the Square root of 28900 wich is 170.
Second with the side length of 170 we found the perimiter by going 170+170+170+170 = 680 m. Now that we found the perimiter we have to double the perimiter because the students ran twice around.
so we went 680 m x 2 = 1360m. now all we have to do is wright a simple sentance answer.

The students ran a distance of 1360 m.

For this question we had to find the side length of the square. and we got the information that the area of the rectangle is the area of the square.

too find the side length of the square you ave to fine the area first. so since we know that they both have the same area we can find the area for the rectangle first.
to find the area of the rectangle we went
Length x width wich is 9 m x 4 m = 36 m2.
now that we know the area of the rectangle we know that the area of the square is the same. So we found the square root of 36 and got 6.

so the side length of the square is 6 m.

Kate is going to put a patio in her
backyard. The patio stones she is using
each have an area of 1 m2. She has created
the rectangular design shown.

a) What is the area of the patio?
the area of the rectangle is 56m2

b) What are the dimensions of another
rectangular patio she could build
with the same area?
for this question we used 7 and 8 for our side lengths.

c) Kate decides to make a patio with the
same area but she wants it to be a square
with whole number side lengths. Is this
possible? Explain your reasoning

it is possible to make her patio a square but it wont be a perfect square for that one we found that out by fining the square root and it was 7.48.

THis is my scribe for today and thanx for reading and comment plz.

Layton's scribepost for November 20

Notation

1= 1 x 1 = 1 2 4= 2 x 2 = 2 2 9= 3 x 3 = 3 2 16= 4 x 4 = 4 2
25= 5 x 5 = 5 2 36= 6 x 6 = 6 2 49=7 x 7 = 7 2 64= 8 x 8 = 8 2
81= 9 x 9 = 9 2 100= 10 x 10 = 10 2

after we had to fill in the blanks on a paper given. the answers were:

can you rearrange them
Length Width Area into a square if you can what is the side length
5 3 15 NO _________________
8 2 16 YES 4 x 4
9 1 9 YES 3 x 3
4 3 12 NO __________________

Prime factorization was what we dd next in class so here is one of the questions we did:

441 441 =7 x 3 x 7 x 3
441=( 7 x 3 ) x ( 7 x 3 )
21 21 441=21 x 21

7 3 7 3

How I stopped an Alien Invasion using Proportion

I was flying a kite at the park when a big UFO came and crashed in the park.
A alien came out of the UFO and was looking at the damages to his ship,
He turn and looked at me with an evil glare then said answer 3 proportion questions
Or your planet will be doomed, so i had to answer them and quickly so these are the proportion questions the alien forced me to answer.

The first Question the alien asked me to answer is:

Two quarters has the same value as ten nickels.
What is the values of five quarters in nickels?

The value of 5 quarters nickles is 25 nickles witch equals $1.25.

The second question he forced me to answer is:

Delia was paid $35 for babysitting for 5 hours
How much should she receive for 3 hours?

She will receive 21 dollars for 3 hours of babysitting.

The last question he forced me to answer is:

Last night 30cm of snow fell in 6 h.
If it continues snowing at the same rate, how long will it take for 45m of snow o fall?
Determine the answer in two different ways.

A)

There will be 45 cm of snow in 9 hours.

B)

After i was done all the proportion questions he was pleased to see what i did and he left
are planet and went back to his using his friend that came and picked him up
in a UFO and they were gone. so i went back home and went to bed after a long day of proportion. :)

Layton's four4s october 13 2009

For homework we had to find similar things in

(4/4) + (4/4)
and (4÷4) + (4÷4).

The similarities:

-they are the same question.

-they both have brackets in them.
-they both have four 4s.

The differences:

-they have different symbols.

Scribepost september.30 2009

9. The two graphs show the number of
health bars sold by two students.

A) How are the two graphs different?

The graphs are different because graph B has a break in it witch changes the appearance of the
graph then how it would
normally look.

B) For each graph, what conclusion would
you make about health bar scales?

In graph A the sales were realy close to the same amount for each student. In graph B it says that chris sold twice as many bars then meagan.

C) Which graph gives a more accurate comparison of sales? Explain

Graph A would give a more accurate comparison because it has no break so there are more intigers and it goes up by less so it would tell us closer to the amount then graph B.
