2 Minutes to Make a Difference Final Reflection
Version 1
Final Cut
Please relect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
How did you find your expert? List 3 important points your expert added to your movie. What did you learn from your expert?
In the first version, the voices weren't that clear and we still needed an interview. In the final version we made the voices more clear and we ask for permission from someone who had interviewed an expert. The experts name was David Suzuki. One thing I learned from the our expert is that it is not too late to make a difference. Another thing I learned is that scientists are already trying to find ways to stop this problem. The last thing I learned is that even though we can reduce of greenhouse gases we can't remove the damage we have already done.
What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
Some skills I will take away are giving people credit for their work and asking for permission such as using cc pictures and asking permission for information. Another skill I will take away will be the ability to use iMovie and converting movie files.
What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
Something that frustrated our group was the fact that the person we were suppose to interview wouldn't respond and we solved the problem by asking permission from someone else to use part of an interview they had with David Suzuki.
Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
I think that the 2 Minutes to make a Difference project is important because at this stage of like we are not aware of all the things happening in the world. The project helps students learn about the outside world and how fortunate we are. If every student made a difference at least one time in thier lifetime, the world could be a better place.
How will you make a difference in the future?
I will make a difference in the future by doing simple things that make a differences such as using the 3 r's and reduce the use of the car. Another way I will make a difference will be by using composting bin. I will also use recycling bins because I have one in my house and it has reduce a LARGE amount of garbage in my trash can. Another way I will make a difference is to encourage lots of people to help make the world a better place.

Ralph's Fraction Growing Post
b) Next, I will explain two ways to multiply a fraction by a whole number using a question from page 202.
One way you could solve the problem is drawing a diagram to show how you did it.
Another way you could solve the problem is multiplying the numerator of a fraction by the other fractions numerator and multiplying one fractions denominator by the other fractions denominator.
eg. 6 x 1/4
c) Next, I will explain how to divide a fraction by a whole number using a question from page 208.
When you divide a fraction by a whole number one of the best ways to solve the problem is with a diagram.
You draw the original fraction, then you make a fraction of that fraction.
eg. 1/4 o/o 2 = 1/8
So you take 1/4. Then you split 1/4 in two. So you end up with 1/8. You get 1/8 because you have to divide all the 1/4's into two so there would be 8 pieces.
d) Finally I will solve one word problem from page 208.
7. A pitcher of orange juice is 2/3full. If four students equally share the juice, what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get?
The question is asking us 2/3 o/o 4 students.
This is how I got my answer:
First I drew 2/3. Next, for each third, I split each one of them into 4th's. Next I filled in 2 squares because the original fraction was 2/3.
When you count up all the squares, there are 12 squares.
The fraction is 2/12.
Each Student gets 2/12 of the juice.
Thanks for reading!
PART 2 !
Fraction x Fraction
When you multiply a fraction by a fraction, you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators to get a new fraction.
When you are multiplying a mixed number by a fraction you convert the mixed number by multiplying the whole number by denominator then adding the numerator of the fraction. Then you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators.
eg.
When you are multiplying mixed numbers by mixed numbers, you convert the mixed numbers by multiplying the whole number by the denominator then adding the numerator of the mixed number. Then you multiply the two numerators and two denominators. Next you convert the new fraction back to a mixed number if the fraction is really big and can't be simplified.

Ralph's Surface Area Growing Post
To find the area of a square you use this formula
a= lxw
Using this formula I can find the area of a rectangular prism. First I have to make a net of the rectangular prism then I use the formular for each face on the prism. After I find the area of all the faces I add them all up to get the Total Surface Area.
TSA=50+50+30+30+15+15
TSA=190cm(2)
Triangular Prism:
To find the area of a triangle you use this formula
a=lxw/2
Using this formula I can find the area of a triangular prism. First I have to make a net of the triangular prism then I use the formular for each face on the prism. I used the rectangular prism formula when there was a square and used the triangular prism formula when there was a triangle. After I find the area of all the faces I add them all up to get the Total Surface Area.
TSA= 1.89+0.98+1.61+1.61+1.61
TSA=7.7cm(2)
Cylinder :
For the cylinder you use 2 formulas.
To find the circumference you use this formula. C = pi x r x r
If you need to find the area of the circle you use: a = (pi) x d
Using this formula I can find the area of a triangular prism. First I have to make a net of the cylinder. Next I used another formula to get the diameter of the cyclinder (which would be r x 2 = d). After that I used the radius to calculate the circumference. Next I used the diamter to find the area of the circle. Next I used the rectangular prism formula to figure out the rectangular part of the net. Finally I added the
2 circles and the rectangular part of the net and got the TSA.
TSA=314+314+1381.6
TSA=2009.6

Ralph's Pay It Forward
Part 1
I think Pay It Forward is a very good idea. If people start helping others, then they will help even more people. If the news spread, then even more people will start being nice to everyone else. Eventually, you could get thousands to ten thousands to one hundred thousand people. The amount of people that could get involved are endless. Everyone should do their part to do something incredible.
Part 2 For Pay It Forward project, we did two things. First we donated clothes to Salvation Army, then we gave cards out to strangers at Polo Park. We chose this activity because people should be happy during Christmas season. We helped people that need clothes at Salvation Army and we helped people at Polo Park by putting a smile on their faces. As I said before we donated clothes at Salvation Army and gave cards out at Polo Park.
We finished our random act of kindness on December 3 2009
Blogger would not let us post the video so we burned it on a DVD. I hope that is alright..
Part 3
For Pay It Forward project, we did two things. First we donated clothes to Salvation Army, then we gave cards out to strangers at Polo Park. When we gave our stuff to Salvation Army, they thanked us and then we left. Next we went to Polo Park and gave out cards to random people. Some people took them, smiled and thanked us. Other people were mean and pretended we weren't there. I felt really good giving things to other people because it made other people smile. Some people reacted well and thanked us, while others just walked past us. We didn't ask people to pay it forward because we weren't sure if people would even take the cards and if people would take it seriously and pay it forward to others.
Part 4
The idea of "Pay it Forward" is important because there are so many things you can do to make a difference in the world. I think our act of kindness made a difference in at least one persons life that day because we made most of the people smile.

Ralphs %%%%%'s Rate Growing Post
Today we had to do part one of a two part post.
Define ratio
Ratio: Compares two things of the same quantity.
eg. 3:4 7:8
Rate: Compares two things measured in different units.
eg. heartbeats : seconds
Questions:
4. Determine the unit rate in each situation.
a) An orca swims 110 km in 2 h.
2h / 2 = 1h 110 km/2 = 60 km 60km/h
b) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h.
12.5 h / 12.5 = 1 800/ 12.5 = 64 64km/h
c) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min.
30min x 2 = 1h 45daffodils x 2 = 90 daffodils 90 daff/ h
10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in
3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is
the faster cyclist? How do you know?
They are both going at the same speed because if you divide 84 by 3 you get 28 and if you divide 70 by 2.5 you still get 28.
Coin Question
If the jar was Canadian, worth 100$ and had 460 coins, what would be the unit rate for each dollar?
Answer:
$ Coins
_____________
$100 460 coins
/ 100
$1 4.6 coins rounded 5 coins
Part 2
I dont know why but, my image won't go on to my post so I'll just do the work anyway.
To find ingredients for 10, you need to multiply the recipe by 2.5. 4 x 2.5 = 10
Recipe for 10 people.
1 1/4 lb ground beef
2 1/2 medium onion diced
2 1/2 celery finely sliced
2 1/2 clove of garlic
35 oz can of tomatoes chopped
1 1/4 can of tomato paste
2 1/2 tsp parsley
3 3/4 tsp basil
2 1/2 tsp oregano
2 1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/4 tsp Worchestershire Sauce
1 1/4 tsp seasoning salt
2 1/2 bay leaf
You can get recipe for one by dividing all ingredients by 4.
Recipe for 1 person
1/8 lb ground beef
1/4 medium onion diced
1/4 celery finely sliced
1/4 clove of garlic
3.5 oz can of tomatoes chopped

Ralphs Coin Math Oct 9 09 part 1 and 2

2.What is the value of each type of coin in a jar.
On a website I found out that
Coin rollers contain the following:
50 x $0.01 = $ 0.50 = a penny roll
40 x $0.05 = $ 2.00 = a nickel roll
50 x $0.10 = $ 5.00 = a dime roll
40 x $0.25 = $10.00 = a quarter roll
25 x $1.00 = $25.00
25 x $2.00 = $50.00
So you could put :
80 rolls of pennies = $40.00
10 rolls of nickels = $20.00
4 roll of dimes = $20.00
2 roll of quarters = $ 20.00
= $100
Considering the fact that its American coins.
I hope that the answer is something on the lines of this chart.
"Coins Part 2"
Our part 2 of our coin math was an assignment.
1. a) Make a combination of USA coins
80 rolls of pennies = 4000 coins = $40.00
10 rolls of nickels = 400 coins =$20.00
4 roll of dimes = 200 coins =$20.00
2 roll of quarters = 80 coins = $ 20.00
= $100
b)Make a combination of Canadian coins
*Must use a roll of each coin.*
If Canadian coins are,
50 x $0.01 = $ 0.50
40 x $0.05 = $ 2.00
50 x $0.10 = $ 5.00
40 x $0.25 = $10.00
25 x $1.00 = $25.00
25 x $2.00 = $50.00
Then you could put
1 roll of toonies = $ 50 = 25 coins
1 roll of loonies = $ 25 = 25 coins
1 roll of quarters = $ 10 = 40 coins
1 roll of dimes = $ 5 = 50 coins
4 rolls of nickels = $ 8 = 120 coins
and 4 rolls of pennies = $2 =200 coins
= 100$ = 460 coins
2. How full is the jar?
If the jar was originally about 75 percent full
and there were about an estimate of 20 rolls or 1350 coins according to other classes work
According to my work, the jar would about 30% full and the jar also has 460 coins.
How can you use a ratio table?
If the information was put on a ratio table it could look like this:

I'm not sure if that's how you make the graph with the information so I just put information on the graph.
