Jex's 2 Minutes to Make a Difference Reflection

Google Docs

Version 1

Final Version

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
In our videos we made a lot of changes. We notice that some grammar did not make any sense or hard to understand. So in our final version we fixed those things. Another thing is that people commented about spelling mistakes and some words in the video were hard to understand. We fixed that and people helped us make our video better.

If you did not find an expert tell us why you were unsuccessful?
We were unsuccessful to find an expert. First of all If we were to find an expert here in Winnipeg that knows our topic its very hard. We also found experts in the internet. Most of them didn't have email. I emailed one expert but the expert didn't respond.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
My greatest success of this 2 minutes to make difference project was making the video and finishing it on time. I think that we did a good job in our video, we did everything that has to be in the video and we liked it as a group and myself. In the future the skills that I'm going to take are my writing skills in the script and making a difference by donating money and other necessities.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
When we were doing this project I got frustrated a lot. Sometimes lots of things were rushed. I also got frustrated by finding an expert it was really hard for us to find an expert at all because like I said before Winnipeg is a place that doesn't have experts for our topic and the expert that I emailed didn't respond. The last thing that I got frustrated at was making the video and this whole 2 minutes to make a difference thing. I didn't really like doing this kind of project at all. Because sometimes it takes time to do it, its very stressful at times and its not that fun even though we're making a difference that's the part the I only enjoyed.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
This whole 2 minutes to make a difference project is important to grade 8 because we have to know what kind of things that we need to change in our world. We can learn skills from it. However this is really not for grade 8's. I think that we're kind of young to do this type of project I think that this is high school work. But there are new skills that I learned. I learned that if you make a difference you will be a better person.

How will you make a difference in the future?
I will make difference in the future by helping people out more, volunteering in places that needs help, I also will use my skills that I learned during this process by using them in the future when its needed and keep donating stuff that needs it.

Jex Fraction Growing Post

In our classes. We learned about how to multiply and divide Fractions

This is my video on my quiz.

Now I will how show how to convert fraction by multiplying, dividing and how to figure out a word problem

Multiplication

There's two ways that you can multiply a fraction. One way is you can use a diagram.
You can put 1/2 in to 4 pieces. It would equal 4/2 or 2.
Another way is use equivalent fractions.
You can do that by multiplying both denominator and numerator.

Division
To divide a fraction first of all, you have to draw a diagram.
After you can it to fraction pieces. Then you can shade how much you are dividing.
Another way is to multiply the denominator and how much is dividing it too.
You leave the numerator the same.

Word Problem
Iqaluit has frost on about 3/4 of the days in a year. It has frost on five times as many days as Vancouver. On what fraction of the days of the year does Vancouver have
frost?

Part 2

Fraction times Fraction

All you have to do is multiply both denominator and both numerator.
So We got here 3/4 x 4/5
You multiply 3x4=12 to get the numerator.
To get the denominator you multiply 4x5=20.
Which equals 12/20 to simplify you divide both denominator and numerator by 4. And it will give you 3/5.

Mixed Number X Fraction

First of all you make the mixed number to a fraction. You do that by multiplying the whole number by the denominator.

So 1x2=2 after that you add 1. So you would get 3/2
Now you multiply 3/2 and 1/4.
It would equal 3/8.

Mixed number X Mixed Number

If you're multiplying a mixed number and a mixed number all you do is convert it to fractions.
2x10+6=26
24x2+1=49
26/10 x 49/2= 1274/20.
Simplify 637/10.
Divide 637/10=63and7/10

PART 3

Dividing Fractions
IF you're dividing fractions.
You multiply the numerator by the other denominator.
So for here we got 3/4 divide 1/2. We multiply those fractions. So we got 6/4.

Now we divide the 6/4.
So the equals. 1 1/2

1 and 1/2 divided by 3/4

For this you have to figure out what 1 1/2 as a fraction so you multiply the denominator and the whole number. So you get 3/2.
Now you multiply First you have to multiply 1 by 2 then you multiply 3 by 4.
So you get
12/2

Now you divide 12/2
12/2=6
So there is 6 wholes

Surface Area Growing Post

So for this post we have to show what we know and learned about triangular prisms, rectangular prism & cylinders.

Rectangular Prism

Formula

A=LxW

Top A=LxW
A=30x10

A=300m squared

Front
A=LxW
A=30x20
A=600m squared
Side

Scribepost for February 18, 2010

Hi everybody today at class we had to do some questions in our math text book.
So for the people who are doing the blog they have to do 3 questions.

So I'm doing questions 3,4&6

So number 3
Sketch a net for each object.
Number 4

Draw the net for each object. Label the
measurements on the net.

Number 6

6. a) Draw the net on grid paper, as shown.
Cut along the outside edges of the net
and fold to form a 3-D object.

This is how would it look like.

b) What is this object called?

Triangular Prism

So I'm done.

Tell me what I screwed up and what I did good.

Hi everybody this is Jex explaining what we did today.
So today we corrected the fractions that we had to figure out in percents.

So these are the fractions :

So for Homework we have to define what a percent is.

Percent means out of 100 and is another way of
saying hundredths.

For example:

Our other homework was to do the show you know question.

I think this is all we did. Please comment and tell me what I did wrong and what I missed.

Hi everybody. 'Im Jex and today we had to work on pages 109-113 to help us do good on the quiz . So I'm doing question 14.

Find the missing side length of each triangle.

Don't Forget to Study for the quiz tomorrow.

Today we had to fill our exploring the Pythagorean Relationship section of our foldable.

So what we did is we talked about Right Triangles.

Right Triangles that has a 90 degree.

The parts of a Right Triangle.

The two shorter sides are called the legs.

The longest sides is called the hypotenuse.

We also had to make a right triangle by making 3 different perfect squares. So we used a 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5. We put the left overs in the 5x5 square.

Only some combinations of a side measure will produce a right triangle.

We also had to make a chart about the right angle.
So first triangle the pattern was. 9+16=25

For homework is to find 2 more combinations to make a right triangle.
Like what I did at the chart.

Sorry if the chart if it wasn't clear enough.

Jex Pay it Forward

Part 1
Pay it forward showed me lots of things and can make a life very different. When Trevor got a homeless man and brought the homeless man in house and feeded him, let him take a bath and stay at his home for shelter. That showed me that he cared for someone that he saw and didn't have a life to enjoy. Pay it forward also thought me how to be a better person. How? Well he changed the world. He made lots of good decisions. He tried to fix everything that was wrong to him and when people get mad at him he still comes back and try to fix the problem. The ending of the movie was the sad part and it showed me how everyone that knows and doesn't know Trevor came to his house and they knew that he changed something.
Part 2

For our active kindness Brayden and I decided to donate anything that we didn't need to Salvation Army. We donated clothes, toys and many other things that we didn't need . We chose this as our active kindness because we wanted to help the less fortunate and get rid our things that we didn't need donated instead of throwing it out.

I also bought pillows for the troops in Afghanistan in JS furniture where they sell it . I chose this because I wanted to help the troops because they worked so hard for Canada for making peace in Afghanistan and for fighting for us and sacrificing their lives for Canada. I also want to thank the troops for what they've done for us.

Part 3

When Brayden and I went to Salvation Army right after school of Wednesday we had no idea where to put our stuff in. So we asked a person who was working there and she told us to put our stuff in a huge pile. I was very please that lots of people donated things to. After we donated our stuff I felt very good that we donated stuff and happy. When people in Salvation Army saw us they were so happy that were contributing to the people who are less fortunate. I didn't ask the person to pay it forward because I know that they will sell for a low price or give them away our things to the less fortunate because they already paid it forward.

When I went to JS furniture I was so excited to buy a pillow to the troops. So when they told us that the pillow was small. I didn't really care because I gave that pillow to a soldier and they will love the pillow for sure. When the person who was working there asked that if I have any family member or knew someone there. I responded no. I said I just wanted to help the troops and make sure they get what they need. I asked them to pay it forward and the person reacted OK we will make sure that the troops will pay it forward to someone else.

Part 4

The idea of pay it forward is very helpful and important because it can make a difference to anywhere whether is in your community or around the world. We often do stuff that are very simple and easy and complain about them but it's not that hard. Compare that to other people who are living in pain and that are homeless. Imagine that if it was us or anybody you know. I just hope our act of kindness just can make a big difference to someone and likes what we gave them and I hope they pay it forward too.

Today we had to find what a square number, factors, prime numbers and prime factors are.

What is a Square number (Perfect square)

A square number is a product of a whole number multiplied by itself.
Ex. 64 product of 8x8

What are Factors

Factors are whole numbers which divides evenly into a whole number leaving no remainder.

Ex. Factors of 16 are 1,2,4,8,16

What are Prime Numbers

A prime number is another whole number greater than 1 and that has only 2 factors 1 and the number itself.

Ex. 2 factors 1 and 2

What are Prime factors

Prime Factors are factors that are prime numbers.

Ex. 10 : 1,2,5,10
