Allysa's Scribepost for October 14, 2009

Today in our math class, we had to find out the definitions for these words:

-2 term ratio
-3 term ratio
-part-to-part ratio
-part-to-whole ratio
-rate
-unit rate
-unit price
-proportion

We only had to put 4 definitions which were:

2 term ratio - compares 2 quantities measured in the same units.
e.g. Written as a:b or a to b.
3 term ratio - compares 3 quantities measured in the same units.
e.g. Written as a:b:c or a to b to c.
part-to-part ratio - compares different parts of a group to each other.
e.g. 10:8 is the part-to-part ratio of brown to red beads.
part-to-whole ratio - compares one part of a group to the whole group.
e.g. 5:23 is the part-to-whole ratio of blue to total number of beads.
