April's BOB and Ratio for Oct.20,2009.

For homework, Mr.Harbeck told us to choose a picture and make ratios with it. I chose this picture.

3 PART TO PART RATIOS:

YELLOW TO ORANGE: 2:2 GREEN TO BROWN: 1:2 SILVER TO BLACK: 1:1

2 PART TO WHOLE RATIOS:

GREEN TO TOTAL: 1:22 PINK TO TOTAL: 1:22

2 THREE PART RATIOS: YELLOW TO ORANGE TO BROWN: 2:2:2 SILVER TO BLACK TO GREEN 1:1:1

THE RATIO I HAVE CHOSEN TO REPRESENT IS YELLOW TO ORANGE.

YELLOW TO ORANGE:
2:2

FRACTION:
2/2

DECIMAL:
1.00

PERCENT:
100%

HOW TO MAKE EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS:

Equivalent fractions are just equal fractions. So to
make an equivalent fractions, whatever you do to one side, you just have to do to the other side. It's that simple!

For example, this picture shows the number of orange crayons, to the number of total crayons. So to get an equivalent fraction, I just divided both the orange and total by 2. You may also divide the two different numbers if you like.

HERE ARE MY 3 QUESTIONS:

1)What is the difference of part to part ratio and part to whole ratio ?

2)How can you simplify 16/28?

3)What is the ratio for white to total pencil crayons?

WELL, THAT'S MY SCRIBEPOST FOR THE DAY. THANKS FOR LOOKING. AND PLEASE COMMENT. :)

*DON'T FORGET TO STUDY FOR THE MATH TEST TOMORROW!*

-----------------------------------------------------------

BOB CONTINUED.

MISTAKES:
Most of my mistakes were from not understanding the questions properly. Or I didn't take enough time to get the best answer. (simplifying).

Here are some examples:

3) A normal deck of playing cards has 52 cards in four suits (clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades) of 13 cards each. Two of the suits are black and two of the suits are red. The ratio of red cards to the whole deck is:

a)1:1 b)1:2 c)2:3 d)2:4

The correct answer is b, 1:2. But instead of b, I picked d. 2:4. I know that 1:2 and 2:4 are the same thing, but it needed to be simplified.

Here are some question that gave me some difficulty to answer.

In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of student preference is seven oatmeal eaters to four granola eaters to three toasted O eaters.
12. Of the 84 students, how many prefer oatmeal?
13. Of the 84 students, how many prefer granola?
14. What percent (to one decimal place) of group prefers toasted O's?

17. Use the data in the table below to determine which sports teams have equivalent scored by to scored against ratios.

1)What is the difference of part to part ratio and part to whole ratio ?
A part to part ratio compares different parts of a group to each other. A part to whole ratio compares one part of a group to the whole group.

2)How can you simplify 16/28?
16/28 simplified is 4/7
I divided 16 by 4 to get 4 and I then divided 28 by 4 to get 7 so the simplified ratio is 4/7.

3)What is the ratio for white to total pencil crayons?
1:22
