Part 1

Ratio - Compares 2 different quantities measured in the same units .
Rate - Compares 2 different quantities measured in different units .

What is the different between Ratio and Rate ??

The Difference between the two are one is measured in the same units and the other is measured in different units .

Page 60

Determine the unit rate in each situation .

a) an orca swims 110km in 2hours.
2/2 = 1h , 110/2 = 5km . = 55km/h
b) A Canada goose flies 800km in 12.5h . 12.5/12.5 = 1h , 800/12.5 = 64km/h
c) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 minutes .
30x2 = 1h , 45x2 = 90 daffodils . =90 daffodils/h .
Page 61
10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84km in 3hours . Jillian rode 70km in 2.5hours . Who is the faster cyclist ? How do you know ??

Trevor - 3/3 = 1hour , 84/3 = 28km . =28km/h .Jillian - 2.5/2.5 = 1hour , 70/2.5 = 28km . = 28km/h .None is a faster cyclist because they are both cycling on a speed of 28km per hour

Elvin's %%%%%'s Rate Growing Post

We had to Define ratio and Define Rate:

Ratio - It defines two quantities that are the same. Example 6:7

Rate - It defines two quantities that are related. Example Heart beats/seconds

Here's my 2 question.
4.) Determine the unit rate in each situation.
a.) An Orca swims 110 km in 2 h.
- 55 km/h
b.) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 hr.
- 64 km/h
c.) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min.
- 1.5 min for every daffodils.

10.) Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is the faster cyclist? How did you know?
- Trevor rode this bike 28 km/h.
- Jullian rode his bike 28 km/h.
- So they had the same speed.

Connor's %%%%% Rate Growing Post

Ratio- Compares two things of the same quantity.

Rate- Comparing two things in different units.

Question 10

Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3h. Jillian rode 75km in 2.5h. Who is the faster cyclist? How do you know?

They are going the same speed.

Question 4

Determine the rate in each situation.

A) An orca swims 110km in 2h.

2/2=1h
110/2=55km

55km/hour

B) A Canadain goose flies 800km in 12.5h.

12.5/12.5=1h
800/12.5=64km

64km/hour

C) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 mins.

30/30=1
45/30=1.5

1.5daffodils/minute

PART 2

Now I have to remake this recipe for 10 people.

You have to multiply the recipe above by 2.5

1 1/2 lb Ground Beef

2 1/2 medium onion diced

2 1/2 Celery sticks finely sliced

2 1/2 Cloves garlic

35 oz can of tomatoes chopped

1 1/4 can of tomato paste

2 1/2 tsp parsley

3 3/4 tsp basil

2 1/2 tsp oregano

2 1/2 tsp sugar

1 1/4 tsp Worchestershire sauce

1 1/4 tsp seasoning salt

2 1/2 bay leaf

This is the recipe for one person

1/8 lb Ground beef

1/4 medium onion diced

1/4 celery finely sliced

1/4 clove garlic

3.5 oz can of tomatoes sliced

1/8 can of tomato paste

1/4 tsp of parsley

0375/7.5ml tsp of basil

1/4 tsp of oregano

1/4 tsp of sugar

1/8 tsp of Worchestershire sauce

1/8 tsp of seasoning salt

1/4 bay leaf

Thanks for reading this it might be a bit messed up because for some reason double spacing is on.

Please comment.

Ratio-a way to compare 2 quantities, sort of like a fraction but only sideways . example: (a word ratio) pandas to raccoons (a regular number ratio) 3:10

Rate- when you compare 2 things in different units. example: $12/per hour

The difference between rate and ratio is rate compares two quantities measured in different units and ratio compares two quantities measured in same units.

What is the unit rate in each ?

a) A blue whale eats 8 tons of krill in 2 days.

b) The cruising speed of a blue whale allows it to travel 193Km in 10 hours.

c) A bull moose bellows 15 times in 2 1/2 hours.

2/2=1

4T/1 day

...b)
193/10=19.3
10/10=1

19.3Km/1 h

...c)
2 1/2 hours=150 minutes
150/15=10
15/15=1

1 bellow/ 10 minutes

Page 61 Question 10:
Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3 hours. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 hours. Who is the fastest cyclist ? How do you know ?

Both Trevor and Jillian have the same speed while riding their bikes. I made a ratio table for Trevor so I divided 3 by 3 to get 1 hour, and so I did the same to 84. 84/3= 28. That makes it 28Km/hour. I also made a ratio table for Jillian so I divided 2.5 hours by 2.5 to get 1 hour, so I did it to the other side as well, 70/2.5=28. That makes it 28Km/hour.

Both speeds are the same.

PART 2

Today, we wrote down a recipe which serves 4 people. What we had to find out was how much more do we need to add to that recipe to serve 10 people, and 1 person.

To serve 10 people using this recipe, you have to multiply everything by 2.5.
1o people:
1 1/4 lb ground beef
2 1/2 medium onion diced
2 1/2 celery finely sliced
2 1/2 clove of garlic
35 oz can of tomatoes chopped
1 1/4 can of tomato paste
2 1/2 tsp parsley
3 3/4 tsp basil
2 1/2 tsp oregano
2 1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/4 tsp Worchestershire Sauce
1 1/4 tsp seasoning salt
2 1/2 bay leaf

To serve 1 person with this recipe, you have to divide the real recipe by 4.
1 person:
1/8 lb ground beef
1/4 medium onion diced
1/4 celery finely sliced
1/4 clove of garlic
3.5 oz can of tomatoes chopped
1/8 can of tomato paste
1/4 tsp of parsley0
.375/7.5ml tsp of basil
1/4 tsp of oregano
1/4 tsp of sugar
1/8 tsp of Worchestershire Sauce
1/8 tsp of seasoning salt
1/4 bay leaf

Ratio: Compares two different quantites

Rate: Compares two different measurements with different units.

What do the both mean?

Ratio is different then Rate because Ratio can compare different quantites that are related to eachother, and Rate is like for example when your jumping up and down you can feel your heart beating, when you touch your pulse you can feel that your beating fast and then your actually counting how many beats you have till it cools down.
