Gilberts 2 Minutes to Make a Difference Reflection

Final cut

Yes the Students comments Did help us fix are video and make are final cut better. The comments told us to fix are grammar cause it didn't make sense. Another thing they commented on is on are spelling mistakes and are font. Are font colors for are paragraphs weren't clear so we had to change the color so it would match the picture and you can see it.

We were unsuccessful finding a expert because there are not that many people that are experts on are topic. But then when we found a expert and emailed him he didn't respond back.

My greatest success was the video. I thought it was my greatest success because It turned out better than I thought It would. The skills I will take away and use in the future are Find better music and pictures to put on a video next time I do this in the future.

The thing that frustrated me the most was trying to speak on the video. It was frustrating because every time we put it on the video you couldn't here it. We solved this problem by speaking super load.

The 2 Minutes to make a Difference project is important because you learn about problems that are in our world today and how you can help with those problem

I will make a difference in the future by volunteering in places that need help or donating money to people who really need it.

Gilberts Fractions Growing Post

In the past couple of classes we've been learning how to multiply and divide fraction so here's a post for how to do it.

Multiplication

OK so there are two ways to find the answer one way is to use a diagram. As you see in my picture I have showned you how to do that. The second is the easier way all you have to do is multiply the both denominators and numerators to get the answer.

DivisionOK so to divide a fraction you have to draw a diagram. After you have done that you you split it into 1/2 then shade in 1 after that you split it into four horizontally and shade in 1. Then you get 1/8.

Word Problem

Iqaluit has frost on about 3/4 of the days in a year. It has frost on five times as many days as Vancouver. On what fraction of the days of the year does Vancouver have frost?

To get theis answer all you have to do is the follow the steps I wrote on division.

Part 2

Fraction x Fraction

To do Fraction x Fraction all you have to do is multiply both the denominator and numerator to get the answer.

Mixed number x A Fraction

OK so all you have to do is make the mixed fraction into a fraction to do that you have to multiply the whole number by the denominator then add the numerator. After you have done that you have to fractions then you just multiply both the denominator and numerator to get the answer.

Mixed Number x Mixed Number

OK to multiply a mixed number by a mixed number is very simple. All you have to do is convert both mixed numbers into fractions then you multiply both fraction to get the answer. After that you simplify your answer then divide it to get your final answer.

Gilberts Percent Scribepost

Question 4 - Page 150
How many hundred grids are needed to show each of the percents.
A)101% = 2 hundred grids
B)589% = 6 hundred grids
C)1450% = 15 hundred grids

Question 4 Pg 148

Chris purchased the following items:
-2 binders for $4.99
-1 math set for $3.99
-a backpack for 19.99
Find the total cost including 5% GST and 7% PST.

What I did was that I added all 3 of them to make $33.96.
I also added 5% GST and 7% PST to make 12%
so I multiplied $33.96 x 1.12 = 38.04

Question 10 Pg 149

What is the total cost for four tires that sell for $85 each, plus 5% GST and 1.5% environment tax.

I found the total for the four tires which was $340.
Then I found 1% of 340 = 3.40.
3.40 x 6 = $20.40
0.5% = 1.70
1.70 + 20.40= $22.10
340 + 22.10 = $362.10

The total for the four tires is $362.10.

Thanks for reading my scribe!

Gilbert Scribepost for January 6 2009

OK today in class Mr. Harbeck told the people who didn't do a scribe yet to pick a question and do one scribe.
OK so I chose number 7

7.What is the height of the wheelchair ramp? Give your answer to the nearest tenth of a centimeter.
Formula
c² - b² = a²
80² - 79² = a²
(80x80) - (79-79) = a²
6400 - 6241 = a²
159 = a²
√159 = √a²
12.6cm= a

Simple sentence answer- The height of the wheel chair ramp would be 12.6 cm high

PLEASE COMMENT THANK YOU !

Gilberts Pay It Forward

Part 1

What does pay it forward mean to me. I think Pay it forward means to be involve in doing something good then the person that you did a good deed to has to do a good deed to someone else.

Part 2
Our act of kindness we donated stuff like clothes and toys to the salvation army. We also did another act of kindness which was to give cards to all of the teachers around the school. The reason why we donated a lot of stuff to the salvation army was because everyone in are group had lots of old clothes that we don't were anymore. Our act of kindness was completed on Dec 5, 2009.

Part 3
Our act of kindness went very well. All the teachers excepted the cards we made and they said they were going to pay it forward. I think the teachers were very proud of us because we were telling them what pay it forward meant. It was kind of funny because some teachers didn't know what pay it forward means but it was all good because we told them what it meant. I felt really good doing pay it forward and making a difference in other peoples life's.

Part 4
Pay it forward is important because it encourages people to make a difference in other peoples life's. Our act of kindness made a big difference in peoples life's. This was a very fun project to do I im really proud of our group we worked very hard on this project. Thank you and remember to pay it forward.

Ratio- Compares 2 things of the same quantity

Rate- Compares 2 quantities measured in two units

My Questions

Trever rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3h. Jullian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is the faster cyclist? How do you know?

answer- they both ride there bike at the same speed 28km/h

Gilberts BOB2

O.K in this scribe we had to Show examples of answers that were wrong. What was your mistake. How will you remember what to do in future tests.

In the test some of my mistakes that really hurt me was not showing my work and not reading the question more better.

1. In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of students preference is seven oatmeal eaters to four granola eaters to three toasted 0 eaters.

Of 84 students, how many prefer oatmeal ?
Of 84 students, how many prefer granola ?
What percent ( to one decimal place ) of the group prefers toasted 0's ?

2. A rapid transit has 17 passengers on it as it starts to run. At the first stop 3 passengers get off and 37 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train as it arrived in the station to the number who were on the train when it left the station? Express your answer in the lowest terms?

Ratio Homework (question # 15)

15. Diana and John are making three-cheese
lasagna. The recipe calls for 100 g of
Romano, 300 g of mozzarella, and 250 g
of cottage cheese.

a) Write a ratio in lowest terms to
compare the amounts of the three
cheeses. State the order of the cheeses.

100 g of Ramano : 300 g of mozzarella : 250 g of cottage cheese <---you divide each number by 50
Then you get the ratio of 2 : 6 : 5 .

b) What amounts of Romano and cottage
cheese do you need to make lasagna that
contains 900 g of mozzarella cheese?
Hint: Use equivalent ratios to help you.

You need 300 g of Romano and 750 g of cottage

Gilberts BOB on graphing

Three thing I know about graphing.

1) Bar graphs are best for comparing Data across categories.

2) Pictographs are best for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols.

3) Circle graph are best for comparing categories to the whole using percentage.

Sorry if this is so short but at least I did one.

Please comment!

I'm sorry if this is not that big of a scribe.

Anyways please comment!
