scribepost 01.06.10

Here's my scribe post for today. I'm doing question 8.

Shahriar knows that the size of a computer monitor is based on the length of the diagonal of the screen. He thinks that the diagonal is not as large as the ad says. is he correct? Explain.

The ad says " GREAT DEAL 42-cm monitor on sale!"

ANSWER:
a
²+b²=c²
25²+30²=c²
(25x25)+(30x30)=c²
625+900=c²
√1525=
√c
39.05cm

Shahriar
is correct. the ad was wrong. The exact length is 39.05 cm

sorry, no pictures.

PLEASE COMMENT :)

joseph's rates

for home work for today we had to make the recipe for people and make it look like if it you had to serve 10 people and do the same if you only had to serve 1 person.

1) What would the recipe look like if it had to serve 10 people? Show your calculations.
1/2 multiply by 2 = 1 X 2 is 2
1 multiply by 4= 4
1 multiply by 4= 4
1 multiply by 4= 4
14 multiply by 4=56
1/2 multiply by 2= 1 X 2 is 2
1 multiply by 4=4
1 1/2 multiply by 4 = 6
1 multiply by 4=4
1 multiply by 4=4
1/2 multiply by 2 = 1 X 2 is 2
1/2 multiply by 2 = 1 X 2 is 2
1 multiply by 4=4
the purple is for the ingredients for 10 people.

2) What would the recipe look like if you had to only serve 1 person? Show your calculations.
1/2 divided by 2 = 0.25/2 is 0.125
1 divided by 4= 0.25
1 divided by 4= 0.25
1 divided by 4= 0.25
14 divided by 4= 3.5
1/2 divided by 2=0.25/2 is 0.125
1 divided by4= 0.25
1 1/2 divided by 4 = 12.30
1 divided by 4=0.25
1 divided by 4=0.25
1/2 divided by 2 =0.125
1/2 divided by 2 =0.125
1 divided by 4=0.25

the red is for the ingredients for one person.

Joseph's bob for 10.20.09

For homework today we had to do a post that had 3 part to part ratio, 2 part total, and 2 three part ratios
next write the ratio in ratio notation, fraction, decimal and percent form.
now pick one and show how to create equivalent ratios.

then make 3 questions that people can answer.an average gr.8 question.

1.part to part ratios
a) RED TO BLUE 6:1
b)GREEN TO RED 7:6
c)YELLOW TO BLUE 4:1
2.part to total ratios
a)RED TO TOTAL 6:18
b)BLUE TO TOTAL 1:18
3.three part ratios
a)RED TO BLUE TO GREEN 6:1:7
b)BLUE TO YELLOW TO GREEN 1:4:7

Now making a ratio into a percent, decimals, fractions.
BLUE TO TOTAL 1:18, 1/18, o.o5..., 05.....%

you cant simplify this ratio any further.

now the my three questions is:

a) What would be the ratio for yellow to total?
b) What is the ratio of red to blue?
c) What is the ratio of red to yellow to total?

Ratio HW

For homework we had to do two questions.
the questions i did was numbers 1&2

1. Janine wants to write the ratio of oranges to apples.
How does she know whether to write 3 : 4 or 4 : 3?
the answer to number one is to know witch one to the other.
example: oranges to apples, there are 4 oranges and 3 apples. 4:3 4\3

2. Your friend missed the class when ratios were introduced. Use an
example and draw a diagram to explain the difference between a
part-to-part ratio and a part-to-whole ratio.
part to part ratio: you compare one ratio to another.
part to whole ratio:you compare one ratio to the total.

scribepost for 10.14.09 by Joseph Reyes

For homework we had to define the key words.

two term ratios: this means comparing two quantities measured in the same units.
three term ratios: this means comparing three quantities measured in the same units .
part to part ratios: this means comparing different parts of a group together.
part to whole ratios: this means comparing one part of a group to the whole group.
rate:the comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
unit rate: A rate in which the second term is 1.
unit price:A unit rate that involves prices. Often shown per 100 g or 100 mL.
proportion:
An equation that says that two ratios or two rates are equal. It can be written
infraction form as 1/4 = 25/100.

Joseph's Scribepost for 10.12.09

For math homework on Friday was to pick one purple question and the other coloured question except for black then answer them.

I chose these questions below:

how much do the coins add up to?
all the coins in the jar add up to $100

Would the jar look the same if the money was Canadian?
It wouldn't really look the same because the first time I saw it I thought it was all Canadian. You can't really tell they both look the same.

Don't forget to comment!!!:)
