Part two:




How to multiply a fraction and a fractions
I will use question number 2 on the fraction quiz as an example.
First step; multiply the two numerators



Second step; multiply the two denominators.


The answer for the first step is going to be the new numerator and the answer for the second step is the new denominater. Now the fraction is 10/18, what you have to do now is simplify, that would be the third step if it is possible to simplify. So the final answer would be 5/9.































How to multiply a fraction and a mixed number
For an example, i'll be using question 4.
First step; Convert the mixed fraction. (multiply 8 & 4 then add 7.) = 39/8 (keep the denominator)

Second Step; multplpy the two fractions (improper [39/8] and proper [1/7]) = 39/56

third step; convert if needed. - i didn't convert this one so i only got 1/2 a mark for this question.













How to multiply a mixed fraction with another mixed
This question is number 8, i'll be using this as an example.


First step; convert both mixed fractions to a fraction (= 11/4 & 11/4)


Second step; multiply them both (= 121/16)


Third step; simplify (= 7 9/16)

Rectangular Prism

the formula you have to use to find the total surface area of a rectangular prism is A=LxW .

For example if you have a rectangular prism with a height of 6cm, Length of 10cm and a width of 4cm. To calculate the total surface area of the rectangular prism you have to use the formula.

Front and back : 6cm x 10cm
A= l x w
A= 10 x 6
A= 60 cm
A= 60 x 2
A= 120cm

Top and bottom: 4cm x 10cm
A= l x w
A= 10 x 4
A= 40cm
A= 40 x 2
A= 80cm

ends: 4cm x 6cm
A= l x w
A= 6 x 4
A= 24cm
A= 24 x 2
A= 48cm

A rectangular prism has 6 sides therefore you have to times it by 2 because there are two sides of the same area.

To get the total surface area you. add it all together

TSA= (area of front and back) + (area of top and bottom) + (area of ends)
TSA= 120 + 80 + 48
TSA= 248cm2


Triangular Prism

to find out the total surface area of a triangular prism the formula you need is A=L x W & B x H/2

For example if you have a length of 10cm, base of 4cm and a height of 5 here's what you have to do, to get the total surface area.

A=L x H
A= 10 x 3
A= 30cm
A= 30x3
A= 90cm

You times this by three since there are 3 equal sides.

A=B x H/2
A= 5 x 3/2
A= 7.5cm
A=7.5 x 2
A= 15cm

You times this by two because there are two sides of a triangle.

Now to get the total surface area you have to add these together.

TSA= (3 x area of a rectangle)+(2 x area of a triangle)
TSA= 90cm + 15cm
TSA= 105cm2

Cylnder

to find out the total surface area of a cylinder you have to use the formula R= d/2, A= L x W and C= pi x r x r

For example if you have a cylinder with a diameter of 2cm and the length being 15 cm. To find the total surface area you'll have to do this ..

R= d/2
R= 2/1
R= 1cm

C= pi x d
C= 3.14 x 2
C= 6.28 cm

A= pi x r x r
A= 3.14 x 1 x 1
A= 3.14
A= 3.14 x 2
A= 6.28

You times it by two because there are two circles. One end and the other.

A= L x W
A= 15 x 6.28
A= 94.2cm

TSA= (area of the circles x 2) + (area of the rectangle)
TSA= 3.14 + 3.14 + 94.2
TSA=100.48cm2

1. Use hundred grids and words to describe the similarities and differences between a percent less than 1%, a percent between 1% and 100%, and a percent greater than 100 %.

similarities are :

- it's still out of 100 .

- it can be shown on a hundred grid .

differences are :

- a percent less than 1 % is a decimal , it can't be a whole number .

5. What percent is represented by each diagram if a completely shaded grid represents 100%?

a ) 3/8 % out of 100

b) 125.5 % out of 100 .

c) 282 % out of 100 .

12. A 250-mL glass of milk contains 30% of the recommended daily value of calcium.Use a hundred grid to show how many glasses of milk you would need to drink to get 100% of the daily value of calcium .

So you would have to drink 833.3-> mL of milk to get 100 % calcium .

13. a) Use a calculator to convert 1/3 to a decimal. How could 1/3% be shown
using a hundred grid .

1/3 converted to a decimal is 0.3 repeated . x it by 100 gives you 33.3 repeated . So you would have to shade in 33 squares and a little part of another square .

b) Why are percents involving repeating decimals sometimes diffi cult to show on a hundred grid?

It's difficult to show it on the hundred grid because it's using a decimal place instead of a whole number . It's harder to estimate .

120m + 300m = 420m . Maria walked 420m .

b) How far did Walter walk ? Express your answer to the nearest meter .

a2 + b2 = c2
3002m + 1202m = c2
( 300 x 300 ) + ( 120 x 120 ) = c2
90 000 + 240 = c2
c2 = 90 240 SQUARED .
c2 = 300.3m .

c ) Who walked farther ? By how much ?
Maria walked farther by 119.7 m .

A floor mat for gymnastics is a square with a side length of 14m . What is the area of the floor mat in square meters ?

- The area is 196 m2 .

question # 22

The world's largest city square is Tianamen square in Beijing , China . It has an area of 396 900 m2 .

a) What are the dimensions of the square ?

- 630 m by 630 m / side length .

b) If the square had dimensions of 629 m by 629 m , what would be the area ?

- 395 641 m2

c) If the square had an area less than 394 000 m2 and greater than 386 000 m2 , What are all of the possible whole number dimensions that it could have ?

- 622.0 and 626.0

Marielle's Pay it Forward .

- Part One .

I think the movie , Pay it Forward made me think more onto the future , because it inspired me with making a change . How ? because the movie really did a good job of expressing the phrase " pay it forward " . I think the boy , Trevor , made a really big difference by changing her mom and other people . Making a change can make the world better . So please pay it forward ! :D


- Part Two .

My pay it forward act of kindness was donating money to the poor children all over the world with the help of other people . I thanked the other people who donated money to the poor by giving them each a key chain . I chose this activity because i wanted to help the poor and i wanted to make a difference , even if it was just a little one . I helped the children with no food and clothing . I went for a walk around my area . Then I went to some houses , stores and to some family members . I asked the people if they can donate any spare change for the poor . I also explained to them how they are paying it forward by donating any amount of money . I had a paper and pen in my hand so that they could write their name , amount of donation and date . Some people wrote their name and some people didn't . I did this act of kindness on December 3 , 2009 , Thursday , 5 days ago .

- Part Three .

My act of kindness went really well . I donated the money to ' Gawad Kalinga ' - ANCOP - by giving the money to my auntie because she's a member of the association . I felt really good after all the money the people and I raised . The people were thankful when i told them i was going to donate money to the poor because I was doing a good deed . I did tell every person that donated to Pay it Forward .

- Part Four .

The idea of paying it forward is important because you can make a change in the world just by doing random act of kindness's . My random act of kindness has made a difference . Now the children that have no food , clothing or money now can be helped just by the money donated .

-remember you guys .... PAY IT FORWARD :)

How I stopped an Alien Invasion using Proportion

Aliens were planning to take over planet Earth , they made a deal and said if I could answer three proportional problems they would fly back to their planet and never come back to bother us .. Here are the questions they had asked me !

THE FIRST QUESTION THAT THE ALIEN ASKED ME WAS :

THE THIRD AND LAST QUESTION THE ALIEN ASKED ME WAS :

Look at the pattern .Set up a proportion you could use to find the number of small squares in figure 7 .

My mistakes in my test were some of the multiple choice and the ordering ratio at the back of the test .

for example :
number 5 . Eric is able to stop 85% of the shots on goal. If he faces 27 shots on goal, how many goals would likely be scored to him ?
a. 3 b. 4 c. 9 d. 15

for that question i put , C . when the right answer was D .

One question that gave me difficulty was number 15 . Ordering the ratios from lowest terms.
Another is question 17 , About the teams with the scored by and scored against fact .

two-term ratio means comparing two quantities measured in the same units.

ex. 10:4 or 10 to 4 .


three-term ratio means comparing three quantities measured in the same units.

One thing that can help me improve on my test is learing how to use a circle graph and fiding out the percents of each peice of the circle out of 100 % .
