2)The changes we made were re-recording our voices, putting the pictures in order, adding more detail, and adding our interview.

3)We found our expert by going on google, searching for Red Cross's telephone number, and trying to contact an expert. Our expert Jennifer, added 3 important points which are: Philippines strong natural disasters, the importance of helping out, no matter where we are in the world, and how Philippines is compared to Canada. Something I learned from her was the importance of helping out those people. Also I learned the big differences that Canada has compared to the Philippines.

5) We were successful in finding an expert.

6) I think the thing I was most successful about was finding the expert. I was in charge of it, and I worked very hard on finding that expert. I needed a lot of patience and I found myself patient. I think a skill I am going to be using in the future is movie making, and probably also with researching. I really enjoyed the process in making the movie.

7) The thing that frustrated me the most was the fact that our group wasn't working together in the beginning. One of my group mates was being in charge and telling all of my group mates what to do. She gave us jobs and she split our group in half. I really didn't like that, because we were all supposed to work together as a group. So I stood up and spoke my mind. :D At the end, we all ended up working together and it was a success.

8) I think 2 Minutes to Make a Difference was important for us grade 8's, because we should start being more aware of the world. The differences in people's lives and how important it is to help each other out.

9) I will make a difference in the future by being more aware of the things that I have that a lot of kids somewhere else don't have. For example, my food. I won't waste it by just throwing it in the garbage when I don't want it anymore. I should think of the kids that would die for just a little piece of food. Also, when I'm not using any of my things such as clothes, I will donate it to my cousins in the Philippines who have very little. I am trying to convince myself in donating my money to my relatives in the Philippines, instead of buying something for myself because, right now they are having a very hard time because of personal problems. Doing little things like that will make a difference in the world.

We changed the video effect in the movie , we took out parts that were repeated throughout the movie , a few speaking parts. We also added some new effects , to make it stick out more. The students comments were very helpful , it gave us suggestions on how to make our movie better ,and we used those , to make it better and we did.

My group and I could not find an expert on racism , because it was hard to find someone . We looked to see if there were any people ,who we could get to talk about racism , but we couldnt find anyone.

My greatest success in the 2 mintues to make a difference was getting the iformation together , organized. SO we could get enough information to make our video , and for it to be succesful.The skill i will take with me , was the movie making.

What fustrated me most was getting all the information we had and picking out certain parts to use in our video. What fustrated me was what we were gonna put in our movie ,and what pictures, and voice records. The stratoregy we used was to pick out the most important information ,and picutres that showed the topic well.

The 2 mintutes to make a difference is important because . It gives a chance for kids to learn about whats happening in the world , and get a chance to learn about it. Knowing that there is always a way to make a difference , its important cause we can make a difference. I could make a difference in the future by standing up against racism .

When we made our movie the first cut was very good i think, the changes we had to make from the ruff cut to the final cut are that we had to make our sentences more fluent and not st udder. Another change we had to make is we had some bad grammar such as "Tooth brushing" instead of "brushing your teeth". What helped us a lot is the comments left behind on our ruff cut. The Comments that were left were very constructive and very good advice on how to make our movie better that it already was.

Well we did have an expert that my mom was supposed to contact but we unfortunately didn't get the email back on time because he was travailing all over the world speaking and awaring people about global warming and other subjects like that like how to go green. After the final cut was due the email came in so we just contacted someone who interviewed David Suzuki and we had are interview like that. 3 important points that the original interviewer told us is that global warming is the source behind climate change. Global warming can not be stop ed. Global warming will one day cause great damage to the earth.We found our expert through my mom because she works will a lot of different people like that and she happened to know him personally. We didn't find the expert in time for our project because he was travailing at the time and didn't have time to send us an email back.

From our 2 minutes to make a difference project What I think our greatest success is that we put our message across to the viewers and gave them ways to be more green. The skills i think i will take away from this project is all the knowledge i took from this project on ways to make a difference on earth from child labor to going green. That's why i am super glad we did this project because it gave me a lot to think about and how easy my life is compared to some people on earth.

The Most Frustrating part about making our movie was probably the ways to make a difference and just getting all the editing done and uploaded on time. Are strategy we used to finish on time was to go over to Noelle's house every day after school just to get it all done.

I think that the 2 minutes to make a difference project is important to grade 8 students because this is a stage in our lives when we have to start to grow up and mature and start to think of others before our self's.

I will make a difference in the future by taking my time to volunteer over my summer break just to help out in our community.

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?

Some changes that we made between the first and the final cut of our movie was stuff like adding voice, making the movie a bit shorter and also adding a lot more information to it. In the first version we made, there wasn't much information because if there were more information, we'd have to add more text and the movie would be longer than 2:30. It was longer than that because we didn't have a microphone at that time. Therefore, we couldn't record anything. I think that the student comments were very helpful, because if they didn't comment on the video, then we wouldn't know what to change when we edited the video. They told us things that we haven't noticed until they mentioned it.

We emailed about 4 or 5 people asking if we could interview them and if they had the time. About 3 of the people responded to our email but the only time they could have an interview was after the movie project was due. So, we couldn't get the interview. We asked the expert if we could interview her online and she told us to send her questions. After we sent her the questions, we waited but she didn't reply, so we couldn't have an interview added to our video.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
I think that my greatest success in the 2 minutes to make a difference project was dealing with how to use a different type of program to make a video when my Windows Movie Maker wasn't working. It took us a long time to figure out how to work it, but in the end it turned out great. Although, the program wouldn't let us record our voices and we also didn't have a microphone. In the final cut, we used a different computer, where Windows Movie Maker did work and we had a microphone that time, so it all worked out.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
What frustrated me during the process of making the movie was having to deal with all the stress, because whenever we planned a day to get together and edit it, there was always 1 person who couldn't go. Also, the due dates were always so early, so we had to rush it and finish it so we wouldn't lose marks. A strategy that we used to become successful was, we divided jobs for each person, so it would all be finished the next time we were together.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?

I think that the 2 minutes to make a difference project was important for grade 8 students, such as me because it helps us learn to think about others instead of ourselves. Also, it helped us learn how to try new things like figuring out how to use a program on my own. I definitely recommend that next year, the new grade 8 students should do it too.

How will you make a difference in the future?

In the future I will try to make a difference by telling people to think twice about wasting something, when other people in Cambodia don't get any of it. Also, I would donate clothes, money and food to the UNICEF because they are also trying to help stop child labour. I can't do it all the time, but even once would make a difference. Another way that I would make a difference is, I will help to spread awareness everywhere.

Final Cut

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
The most important thing we did was making our movie alot shorter. We reduced the time from 3:20 to 2:30 to match the title of this project 2 Minutes to Make a Differance. Another thing we changed was taking out the words we put and replacing it with voice which helped in making the movie shorter. We had to make are music more quite because we got comments on are video saying it was too loud. We made the pictures go by faster which also helped to make the movie shorter. It was really good to know what people liked and disliked about our movie so we knew what things needed to be changed.

We sent emails to a bunch of people related to child labour projects. We got two responses one from the RCMP and one from a girl working on something in Africa. The RCMP couldn't set up an interview with us until after the project was due. The girl in Africa said that she would set up an interview with us, but when we sent the email she didn't reply back.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project? What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
I think the greatest success about this project was being able to have fun with it. We also got to try and make a differance telling others about what is happening with Child Labour so that maybe they could make a differance in the future too. Working with groups because I think it will help to have teamwork and being able to understand how your fellow group members work.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
What frustrated me the most was finding out that there was a change in the date the final cut had to be finished by. It meant we would have to squish all the planning for putting the movie together. We also had trouble with all of our group being together all the time because someone wouldn't always be able to go to another group members house one day. My strategy to becoming successful with this project was not being over worked and everyone being able to agree on what we were going to do with our movie.

Why is the 2 minutes project important to grade 8 students?
I think this is important to grade 8 students because we will learn how to help out others across the world at a young age. Even if it is just spreading the word it will convince others to maybe donate money or help out in any way possible to make life for others good. With everyone helping out at all ages it can make a huge differance in the long run. It also teaches us to be responsible for our world and to take care of everything on it.

How will you make a difference in the future?
I will make a differance by picking up trash that I walk by on the streets and I would like to donate money to things that will help people from the ones strucken by poverty to the soldiers trying to make peace for this world.

Our project's first draft needed a lot of work. The suggestions we got from our peer assessment really helped with our decisions. Most of our voice overs were really quiet so we had to spend a lot of time fixing that. We didn't like our music so we used my brothers music collaboration CD that had a lot of up and coming artists featured on it. I think we did that just to be sure our music wasn't the same as everyone else's.

Candace was our expert, (the girl running across Canada) and she was very open and sincere when she answered our questions. Lucky for us she was responding from her fan email and wasn't slow when it came to getting back to us, even though she was running all day. The 3 most important answers she gave us were probably this:

What are your thoughts on Canada being the child poverty capital of Canada?

its a shame when i see little children in a soup line asking for food,there is no reason for that at all,canada is ranked 3rd in the world for riches and yet we live in a poor lifestyle.45.000 children in wpg use the foodbank every month

Do you ever doubt that you'll finish your run?

it has never crossed my mind,if i thought about giving up then the run is for nothing..i want the youth to know we cant give up on things that seem hard in life or else your gonna be a failure and life will be hard because we gave up,so kids never ever give up no matter what people say.

i want to tell the children that no matter how hard life is please stay away from gangs..stay away from drugs..these are very very bad things and they will make your life bad and all its going to do to you is be a bad person..

I learned that what ever you do, do it with pride and with reason. What I think she gave to this movie was a human face. You can tell your audience all of the facts, but you can't just expect people to make a difference without a real role model.

I'd have to say the biggest and most useful skill I picked up was learning how to use a Mac. Just like Harbeck said: "It's like learning a different language."

Other than that, the whole learning how to put equal efforts into a group project was something very important I picked up. I was really stressed out when it came to when I had to organize the garage sale. I didn't know whether I should just trust my group members to deal with the technology stuff that I didn't know how to do, or get mad at them for not making posters fast enough. In the end I did what I was strongest at (organizing and planning) and they acted as my crutches the whole way. I was their little student when we had to put all the effects on the video. I'm pretty sure I wasn't a technology person before the project, but now I know my fair share.

My 2 biggest problems with this project were the slides and the pictures. Their isn't exactly a lot of pictures of Candace Sutherland on Flickr creative commons now is there? So I contacted her and got permission to use the pictures from her website. The only other huge trouble I got into was my research slides. I didn't think I should waste my time on petty statistics for all my slides. So I spent 3 hours figuring out how much it would cost to live for a month in Winnipeg. That was very time consuming, but worth it.

We are at a very impressionable age right now, convince us to be good people before our minds go straight to hell. Pardon my French, but it's true and if no one's going to say it I will. I doubt we'd do something quite this time consuming on both the teacher's and student's behalf at another school. Then again other school's aren't as creative as Sargent Park. I don't think any of us would have developed any character at all without this project, at least not so early on in life. We all need to learn to be good people at some point in our lives, you just taught us to be good people earlier than expected.

I will keep supporting Candace Sutherland with her vision4hope. I don't want to just stop even after we get a grade for this project. 2 minutes to make a difference has just put me in motion for what I can actually accomplish. I just want to keep helping out anyway I can.

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?

We made lot of changes. One of our most important changes was to make the video from 3:20 seconds down to 2:30 seconds. We also had to put in voices because in the other video we just had a lot of writing which made the video so long. Also, we had to lower the music because people said it was a little distracting. When we were editing he video we also made the pictures go a little faster and we put more transitions to each slide. When we had other students comment on our video, I think it really helped. When they told us how the video needed some changes, it helped because after they pointed it out we looked over the video and we saw what they saw.

We didn't get a expert to interview so I can not answer questions 3 and 4. First we sent out alt of messages to people studying about child labour. In the end we only got two responses. One of which was with the RCMP. We couldn't do an interviews with them because they said they could only arrange an interview in the month of may. The other message we From a girl in Africa. She said she would be happy to set up a online interview with us. We couldn't do the interview because when i sen the message, she didn't reply back to me.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project? What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?

I think the greatest success in the project was finishing it. It took a lot of our own time going to each others houses doing the work, sending messages, and most of all having fun doing the project. I think some skills that I will take with me is gathering information. When you gather information it helps because it makes it easier to make sentences because you have all the information written down.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?

I think we got frustrated with the time changed, how we had to hand it in earlier. When the due date was switched it was difficult because we would have to plan out when we were going to meet and because we weren't too far into the project yet. It was also frustrating when we couldn't all go to a persons house to work on the project, it would either be three of us, or two of us, but in the end we all finally got together many times and finished he project. I think strategies i used to become successful was not to get over frustrated, like don't get angry easily if things don't go the way you want it to. if the whole group doesn't want to put what you said, don't freak out just change what you made and see if they will the next time.

Why is the 2 minutes project important to grade 8 students?

I honestly think that 2 minutes to make a difference is very important because, when we are at this certain age we could start to see what is happening now instead of when it is going to be too late. If we do the littlest things now it could lead up to a big thing in the future. When you are at an older age its harder too see what is happening to the world and the people living on it. People are going through child labour, some animals are soon to be extinct, the would is getting polluted every day because of all those people who don't care enough about the world to pick something up off the floor and put it into a trash can. With every ones help, and all of them pitching in a little bit every day the world might be different than it is now.

How will you make a difference in the future?

I will try to keep donating clothes, money or perishable food items to people around the world who need it the most. I cant guarantee that i will be doing this through out my life, but i will always try to help and try to make everything that goes to the people count.

CHANGES
We have made alot of changes in our final video and those are : adding voices , putting different pictures and we made our video alot shorter than before and many more . This small things made our video alot better but we still got good comments in our rough draft and they told us how to make our video better and what we need to work on . I think some of our pictures that we added in our final cut was better than the old video and it really helps to show more meaning to what was happening in cambodia so it will be alot easier to understand .

EXPERT
We tried finding people that we could talk to about our topic and We sent soo much emails and some of them didnt reply and some of them told us that they dont have time and that they were too busy but they told us they would love to help us but just couldnt make time for it .

SUCCESS
I think that my greatest success in this project was gathering and getting information about our topic so we could make a video and also getting pictures to help poeple show what we mean while we talk in the video . but i think the video was our greatest success and we cant ask for more we found it easy because in our final cut we knew what to work on and what to make changes on and we really thank those people who commented on our first draft and helped us to make our final video better .

FRUSTRATION DURING THE PROJECT
one thing that really irritated my group and having problems on was getting an expert because they were all busy and we didnt really solved this problem and another thing that we had problems with was doing our first video because we really had to rush it , we didnt had enough time to make our first video good because everyone was kind of busy with family , sports , meetings and we solved this problem by making schedule and making plans ahead of time

IMPORTANCE
The 2 minutes to make a difference is really important to us because it is only a matter of time till we actually make a difference and if we dont the earth would just come to a point when everything is really messy and messed up , I think that everyone should really start caring about the earth and actually caring about those people on the other side of us who has been struggling ever since they were born .

Final cut

Yes the Students comments Did help us fix are video and make are final cut better. The comments told us to fix are grammar cause it didn't make sense. Another thing they commented on is on are spelling mistakes and are font. Are font colors for are paragraphs weren't clear so we had to change the color so it would match the picture and you can see it.

We were unsuccessful finding a expert because there are not that many people that are experts on are topic. But then when we found a expert and emailed him he didn't respond back.

My greatest success was the video. I thought it was my greatest success because It turned out better than I thought It would. The skills I will take away and use in the future are Find better music and pictures to put on a video next time I do this in the future.

The thing that frustrated me the most was trying to speak on the video. It was frustrating because every time we put it on the video you couldn't here it. We solved this problem by speaking super load.

The student comments were very helpful. We followed most of the suggestions that were given to us so that our video would be much better than the version 1. The changes that I made were: the narrated voice, proper grammar, music, full credits, background, transitions between slides, interview, and pictures.

Shania Williams was the one who found the expert for us. Although, Vanessa and I put an effort into finding one, Shania's the one who found the expert. His name is Azad. He once lived in poverty and so.. Shania interviewed him. He left her his number, and the next day or so, Shania and Vanessa came over and we called him. One important point he said was that poverty is when you don't have proper medical attention, proper needs including water, and food to eat. He also said that the people who are living on the street is really not poverty because the have options; whether or not they want to live up on the streets or find somewhere else they can stay at. Azad also mentioned that when you're in poverty, you are somewhat living a simple life because compared to what we have right now, we'd want to ask for more than what we need because we know that we can get it. People in poverty, don't ask for more than what they need because if they were able to get something, it's more than enough. They're satisfied with it, unlike us who are more fortunate than them.

The greatest success in our 2 Minutes to make a difference was finding the expert, Azad. Without having Shania to interview him, our project would be incomplete. The skills that I want to use in the future is having to talk about an issue and sticking to it without any distractions because when my group and I were working on the movie project, the two of them were getting distracted easily while I on the other hand, was working on the movie.

What frustrated me the most was the fact that were not many cooperation from my group. The times that were suppose to work on the movie when we got together, actually never happened. There were many distractions going on. We only got together about 2 times to work on the movie, and it did not go very well. We also had many fights because there was no cooperation or teamwork at all. They somewhat helped me with the script, but I was still the one who actually put it together. How the movie became successful? I told the both of them that I will make the movie myself and do the edits because there was not enough time to complete this whole movie because there was no teamwork at all and there was a lot of distractions. I was really frustrated because not only did I work on the movie on my own, the google docs.. I had to double the work because my group member chose to not do it. She completed it, but not on time for the teachers to mark and so I was very frustrated with that.

2 Minutes to make a difference is very important because it teaches you a lot of things in life. Having to help someone and making a difference in their life is a huge thing. This project is not about yourself but about other people. No matter how old you are, where you are and etc, you can make a difference. Making a difference is a goal that anyone can achieve. This whole project is helping you realize what our community needs and what it needs is respect.

In the future, I will make a difference by helping out others when they're in need of help. I will donate proper needs to the people who are less fortunate than us. I will try to speak out for the people who are not being treated with dignity and respect. I'll help spread the issue and they can spread it all around our community. Having to respect the environment more will also make a difference.

Final Cut

The comments that were received were very helpful. My group and I were pointed out that we had a few grammar mistakes, we studderred and we also did not include an interview. We made changes to our final copy by doing over most of our voice parts over again. Also we included a well brought up point by David Suzuki.

We found our expert by lots of searching and a lot of emails. A couple important points made by our expert -David Suzuki- was that it's never too late to make a difference, but if we don't do anything soon, then it might actually be too late. He said that we can help our earth, but we can't get rid of what already has infected our ozone layer. Also he pointed out to us in the original email that there are many scientists that are looking for ways to stop this problem, and to reduce it bit by bit.

My group and I never really found David Suzuki's email, but we did find a person who did interview David in person. We then asked the interviewer if we could use part of his interview. We did have an actual expert that we did have an email for, but we didn't have a response until a couple days after the due date.

One of the biggest things I will take away from this project to use in my future was probably all the work I had to do, all in very little time. Another thing I could reuse is staying organized and trying to steady my group to make sure they all had their own duties to fulfill.

My biggest frustration through the whole movie making process, would probably having to be making continuous changes with our video. I think it would've been much easier if my group could always be with me as I work on it so i can tell them about my ideas in stead of just changing it , then having them seeing it and not liking it. Also converting my files; the audio and video files. What I did was I simply just made sure I knew what my group wanted that I also approved of before I made the change. Also I made sure I knew what I was converting before I did it so that I wouldn't have to go back and redo the conversion.

I personally think that this project is important for our grade eight students, because I think that it's at this age, we start to realize what's is happening around the world and that things are changing too fast in bad ways. It opens our eyes and makes us aware and gives us advice on what to do about all the stuff happening around us, from poverty in Africa, to pollution in Indonesia. From animal abuse in Denmark, to child abuse in India. All this can be reduced with all our help,

I can't promise I will make any big differences, but in my two minutes video my group and I shared about fifteen easy ways you can reduce global warming everyday. By doing those little things, I know that I will be easily helping my community, city, country and my world.

The Comments you guys posted up on YouTube (spmath) were very helpful, but the thing about the Microphones is that We don't have any so thats why In the final video we didn't have the talking parts in. I also didn't find an expert because it was Kind of hard to search for a person that knows animal cruelty/abuse.

In the Internet I was trying to search for an expert for our video but unfortunately We had no luck because finding these experts about Animal Cruelty Is not in the internet so that was why we were unsuccessful.

My greatest success was that I made My first video and that I'm very proud of It.

In the future I will be taking my editing skills because I need work on them, also I will be taking The CC Pictures with me and the script that we made together.

The thing that frustrated me most was that my Pictures in the windows movie maker wouldn't upload so I had to think of ways to upload them so I had one way of putting the pictures in, and thats by putting the pictures on the desktop, so that's how I made them not look like X's on the movie maker, that's how I became successful, oh and I self learned this myself on how to put the pictures back.

The reason why It Is very Important Is because When you start this project, then you get to know more about what the project Is actually about and that Is why making your own videos is a way of showing that you can do these things in the future. The things we changed for our video was our voices because we were too loud or too quiet, while we were recording we made our voices go into a normal paste, instead of talking fast or slow. We changed our voice by making it clearer and understandable, we made few mistakes , example : country : continent. We also added different pictures that matched our script. The other things we added was the interview with Donna Beagle and also how we made a difference. The comments that the students and Ms. Armstrong made was very helpful in making our final cut video into a better one because the students and Ms. Armstrong found the mistakes we made and they also told us how we could make it into a better one. We found our expert on the internet, by searching "experts on Poverty". Donna Beagle gave some information about Poverty. She also compared Poverty in Africa and to United States. The greatest success in our project was finding an expert and finishing our video on time and how we paid off our hard work, by getting together and work hard for many hours by making the video better each time. What frustrated me during the movie process was trying to say the script, because I kept on making mistakes, laughing which took me more than 20 tries. The strategies I use to become successful was to focus, because if I don't then how is our movie going to be successful right? We made many changes in our video. Many of the comments were very helpful and the rubric made us think more on what we need to work on to make it more successful. What we changed in our video was our voices. When we spoke, our voices were to quiet or too fast. So we decided to change it and make it more clearer. We also added our interview and how we made a difference. Mrs. Armstrong was a great help to us. She really caught mistakes that people wouldn't usually hear. One of them were saying Africa was a country but, it was a continent. So we have to redo our script.

How did you find your expert? What did you learn from your expert?
We found our expert on searching on the internet. Our expert's name was Donna Beegle. She is an expert on poverty In the United states. She gave us plenty of information that we could we and one of them was comparing Africa with the United States. Even though she was mostly dealing with the US. She did give us information on poverty in Africa. Sadly, that information did not give on camera.

I think the greatest success was finishing the video and I can't ask for more than that. I thought it was a great success because for me this is the first video I have done. We worked hard doing this video and it's finally done. We did our best to make to good, for example, we match our script to our pictures. We did that to make people understand what we were talking about. I know for sure I will take my editing skill because editing makes things more better and so I can improve on it.

What frustrated me was finding an expert. I was incharge of finding someone we can interview. I finally found one and decided to e-mail them letting to know that we were going to interview them. I took awhile for a response because it was soon the due date. Next, we needed a place to call her and it took awhile, but it all payed off in the end. The comments that were posted on my group's Version One video were pretty helpful. We made some grammar errors and studdered a couple times. We also had problems with our voice. We didn't make a huge change in the two videos. The comments were helpful and actually gave us an idea so we can do even better for the final cut. I enjoy getting criticism so we can do much better in the future.

Unfortunately , We did not find an expert for our group . We checked the Internet to see if we could find one , but we were unsuccessful.

Our greatest success was I think the voice overs, and pictures. Skills I would take with me in the future might be, to make things more clear (voice overs) and maybe put more meaningful pictures in the project .

The things that frustrated me , was saving the project then going to upload it and we couldn't find it .. This happened about 3 times. But eventually ,we did it right.

I think the 2 minutes is important to grade 8's because it's time to make a change , Now . Were all going to go to high school and being in grade 9 next year and some times things get way out of hand in high school and it's better to learn about it now than later.

In our videos we made a lot of changes. We notice that some grammar did not make any sense or hard to understand. So in our final version we fixed those things. Poverty in Winnipeg: Final Version

What were the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie? Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?

There were many changes we made between our first and final video. One was that we changed the music because we thought the song we chose for our final video suited the pictures we found more than the first music. Second change we made was that we added pictures we took at the garage sale we had for our making a difference. We also made our voices more audible and added one or two more pictures. These main changes we did were mostly mentioned by the students so I would say that the feedback from the students did help us.

How did you find your expert? List 3 important points your expert added to your movie. What did you learn from your expert?

We found our expert when Binesi brought in a newspaper article on a girl named Candace Sutherland. Binesi quickly explained who she was and so we did research on her. We emailed her for our interview and we got her to answer ten questions we had made up. We decided that we wouldn't put up the email we sent back and forth to each other but we had evidence of who we interviewed. Even though our video didn't feature our whole interview, one very important thing we learned was that even though you're young and don't really have much say in some things, you are able to make a big difference in the present day. We also learned that people do care about having to make a difference and Candace proved that anyone can make a difference.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project? What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?

I would say that our greatest success was probably being able to find an expert on our topic who has actually gone through poverty and is now helping to make a difference. Skills I will take away with me and use in the future is probably being able to work iMovie with the help of Mr. Harbeck and other teachers. Another thing I would probably take away is finding Creative Commons pictures so that I don't feel like I'm taking someone else's work without their permission.

Something that frustrated me during the movie making process was not being able to work iMovie the first time, although eventually I got the hang of it toward the end of the process. It was also frustrating when we couldn't upload our video onto iMovie, but with some help, we became successful. Some strategies we used to be successful was that we would take a break whenever we got really frustrated and just give ourselves time to think. During the movie making process we also had to ask some teachers for help.

The 2 Minutes project is important to grade 8 students because this project teaches us many lessons and helps us to be aware of the world around us. It is also important because we get the opportunity to educate other people about our knowledge on poverty, global warming, etc. Another reason why this project is important is because not only will we start making a difference but rather everyone else will as well.

In the first version, the voices weren't that clear and we still needed an interview. In the final version we made the voices more clear and we ask for permission from someone who had interviewed an expert. The experts name was David Suzuki. One thing I learned from the our expert is that it is not too late to make a difference. Another thing I learned is that scientists are already trying to find ways to stop this problem. The last thing I learned is that even though we can reduce of greenhouse gases we can't remove the damage we have already done.

Some skills I will take away are giving people credit for their work and asking for permission such as using cc pictures and asking permission for information. Another skill I will take away will be the ability to use iMovie and converting movie files.

There were a few minor changes we made in our final cut. One change we made was adding and taking away pictures, we also added the pictures for our garage sale which was what we did to make a difference. Another change we made was that we redid and reworded our voiceovers because they were all either to quiet or there was static in the background. The final change we made was that we changed our music, we felt that the new piece of music was more cut out for our information and pictures. All the changes we made came from the feedback from our peers, so yes, the student comments were really helpful when it came to making our final cut.

Something that Candace taught me was that anyone is capable to make a difference. Even though she is only one girl and isn't well known, she showed me that if you set your mind to it and if you believe, you'll be able to achieve many things.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project? What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?

The greatest success I accomplished in the project was probably completing the project. During the process, my group and I felt overwhelmed whether it was finding an expert, looking for pictures, or getting appropriate music. So once we finally completed the project, we felt really good knowing that it may be able to help out a lot of people. A skill I will use in the future that I learned from this project would be using the Mac computer. We had a lot of trouble in the beginning but now we are able to work with the computer which will really benefit us in the future. Another skill that will help me later on is using key words to find research or pictures. With the key words we were able to narrow down pictures and websites instead of going through a lot of them and using up time.

What frustrated you with during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?

Using the Mac in the beginning really frustrated me. I wasn't able to use any of the programs without having difficulties. Later on I got used to it but I had to get a lot of help from teachers to find out what to do. The program that really gave me a hard time was iMovie, I had many problems with it from getting the music into iTunes, finding internet connection, and even uploading the finished product into Youtube. But with many teachers' help, we figured everything out. Some strategies that helped my group used was that we took turns trying to figure out the program and we also took time off to figure out what needed to be done and what we could do.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to grade 8 students?

The 2 Minutes project is important to us grade 8 students because we are the ones that are being counted on to make a change. With everything that is going on now, people are expecting our generation to fix the problems. We are the future leaders and by being taught about the problems happening and making this project, it will give us the chance to make a difference while also educating others.

2) I made a lot of changes from version 1 to the final cut. I fixed the grammar. A lot of the words were mispelled and the sentences didn't make sense. Reflection :

I changed the video effect because the final version one grabs peoples attention more.
The student comments were helpful and I took a look at them all and it did make my movie better than it was before. Our group did not find an Expert because we did Racism and Racism doesn't really have experts but my group and I did look on the internet to see if we could get an expert but we couldn't..
The skills I learned while editing and making this movie are helpful and now I can use Windows Movie Maker if I ever need to make a movie again. While editing this movie I really got to understand Windows Movie Maker better than I did before.
By putting pictures and Audio of us speaking during the pictures in the movie was very difficult but then we helped each other and got it together.
We made this video to show people that they can put a stop to racism because it hurts and it also gets better sick .. I think its important to make a difference in grade 8 because were getting older and we are old enough to understand whats respectful or not.
If everyone stops being racist towards each other racism will stop ! It just takes one person to make a difference.

Fraction: 1 1/2 / 3/4

Turn the mixed fraction into an improper fraction by multiplying the denominator and the whole number together and then add the numerator. Use the answer as a new numerator and use the old denominator. Replace the mixed fraction with the improper fraction and start the division. For the first way, you can cross multiply by multiplying the numerator of one fraction together with the other denominator from the other fraction and you do the same with the other denominator and numerator. Then you can just simplify the answer into lowest terms.

Part two:

How to multiply a fraction and a fractions
I will use question number 2 on the fraction quiz as an example.
First step; multiply the two numerators

Second step; multiply the two denominators.

The answer for the first step is going to be the new numerator and the answer for the second step is the new denominater. Now the fraction is 10/18, what you have to do now is simplify, that would be the third step if it is possible to simplify. So the final answer would be 5/9.

How to multiply a fraction and a mixed number
For an example, i'll be using question 4.
First step; Convert the mixed fraction. (multiply 8 & 4 then add 7.) = 39/8 (keep the denominator)

Second Step; multplpy the two fractions (improper [39/8] and proper [1/7]) = 39/56

third step; convert if needed. - i didn't convert this one so i only got 1/2 a mark for this question.

How to multiply a mixed fraction with another mixed
This question is number 8, i'll be using this as an example.

First step; convert both mixed fractions to a fraction (= 11/4 & 11/4)

Second step; multiply them both (= 121/16)

Third step; simplify (= 7 9/16)

In the past couple of classes we've been learning how to multiply and divide fraction so here's a post for how to do it.

Multiplication
OK so there are two ways to find the answer one way is to use a diagram. As you see in my picture I have showned you how to do that. The second is the easier way all you have to do is multiply the both denominators and numerators to get the answer.

DivisionOK so to divide a fraction you have to draw a diagram. After you have done that you you split it into 1/2 then shade in 1 after that you split it into four horizontally and shade in 1. Then you get 1/8.

Word Problem

Iqaluit has frost on about 3/4 of the days in a year. It has frost on five times as many days as Vancouver. On what fraction of the days of the year does Vancouver have frost?

To get theis answer all you have to do is the follow the steps I wrote on division.

To do Fraction x Fraction all you have to do is multiply both the denominator and numerator to get the answer.

Mixed number x A Fraction

OK so all you have to do is make the mixed fraction into a fraction to do that you have to multiply the whole number by the denominator then add the numerator. After you have done that you have to fractions then you just multiply both the denominator and numerator to get the answer.

Mixed Number x Mixed Number

OK to multiply a mixed number by a mixed number is very simple. All you have to do is convert both mixed numbers into fractions then you multiply both fraction to get the answer. After that you simplify your answer then divide it to get your final answer.

I used question 5 from the text book to help me explain how to divide fractions.

One way you can show you divided a fraction is by using a fraction strip. Then you divide the strip into even smaller pieces then take the half the original amount of strips.

Another way you can divide a fraction is by multiplying the denominator of the fraction by the divisor.

4/8 divided by 2 = 4/16

The answer would be 11/20

How I got it:

Step 1: Multiply 5 by 12 and then add 2 so you will get 62/12
Step 2: Multiply 4 by 23 and add 6 and you will get 92/23
Step 3: multiply 62/12 by 92/23 and you will get 5704/276
Step 4: Then divide it.... 276 will go to 5704 20 times and there will be 184 remaining. So its (20) 184/276
Step 5: Simplify
I simplified it by 4 and i got (20) 46/69

So the answer is (20) 46/69

Over the Past Few weeks we have been learning about dividing and multiplying fractions ! Here is my growing post .

a)I recorded a video, but I couldn't find it ;(

b) Using one question from questions 6 or 7 on page 202 of the textbook, explain two ways to multiply a fraction by a whole number. You should use pictures to help explain. -

the question i chose was 4 x 1/2 !
one way you could do this equation is to draw 4 groups of 1/2 to get the answer of 4/2 or 2.

another way you could do the equation is 4/1 x 1/2 . You multiply the 2 numerators first and then you multiply the two denominators .

c) Using one question from questions 4 or 5 on page 208 of the textbook, explain how to divide a fraction by a whole number. You should use pictures.

To divide a fraction, you cut it into how many rows the whole number is. Since the fraction is one half, you can shade in one half of the whole. After that, since the fraction is still one half, it means you can have one fourth of the shaded section. That concludes to the answer being one eighth.

d)A pitcher of orange juice is 2/3 full. If four students equally share the juice, what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get?

The Answer ? Each student gets 2/12 or 1/6 of the full pitcher of orange juice.
2/3 divided by 4 = 2/12 or 1/6 (simplify )

How to Multiply a Fraction by a Fraction
The first step to multiply a fraction by a fraction is to multiply the first fraction's numerator with the second fraction's numerator. Next, you have to multiply the first fraction's denominator with the second fraction's denominator. Finally, to get your answer, you take the answers from the numerator multiplied by the other numerator question and the denominator multiplied by the other denominator and make a fraction of the answers (Simplify if possible).

How to Multiply a Fraction by a Mixed Fraction
The first thing I did to multiply a fraction by a mixed number is to convert the mixed number to an improper fraction by multiplying the whole number by the denominator. Then you take that answer and add te numerator. Next you make that answer a fraction by just taking the denominator and adding the last answer on top of it. After that you multiply the numerator with the improper numerator and multiply the denominator with the improper fraction's denominator. Finally, you convert the improper fraction into a mixed fraction by counting how many times the denominator fits into numerator and make the remainder into a fraction(Simplify the fraction if possible).

How to Multiply a Mixed Fraction by a Mixed Fraction
The first step you're supposed to do when you are multiplying a mixed fraction with a mixed fraction is to make both of the mixed fractions into improper fractions. Then you multiply the numerators and the denominators. Next, you get the answer's numerator and denominator and you find out how many times the denominator fits into the numerator. After that, you make the remainder into a fraction (Simplify if possible). That is how you multiply two mixed fractions.

But if your answer is a proper fraction, you just convert it to lowest terms.

3) Mixed Number x Mixed Number

The steps to find the answer of a multiplication question using mixed numbers is that first, you have to turn the mixed numbers into improper fractions. Then, you multiply the numerators and denominators. After that, you turn that improper fraction back into a mixed number. Finally, you put it into lowest terms.

Part 3

In today's class, we learned how to divide fractions. We came up with three different ways to find them. But for me, I'm more comfortable with using only two of the ways so those will be the two I will explain.

a) Dividing Proper Fractions

When you divide a proper fraction, one way you can do it is by using cross multiplication. You get the denominator by multiplying the denominator of the dividend and the numerator of the divisor. To get the numerator, you multiply the numerator of the dividend by the denominator of the divisor. If it is an improper fraction, convert it into a mixed fraction then put it into lowest terms.

The second way to get the answer is by finding a common denominator. When you get the common denominators. The numerator of the dividend it the numerator of the quotient and numerator of the divisor is the denominator for the quotient. And again if it is an improper fraction, turn it into a mixed number then convert it into lowest terms.

b) Dividing a Mixed Number and a Proper Fraction
Here, I'll explain two ways to find the quotient of a mixed number and a proper fraction.

The first way you can find the quotient is by cross multiplying. First, you convert the mixed number into a improper fraction. Then you multiply the numerator of the dividend the denominator of the divisor to the numerator of the quotient. Next, you multiply the denominator of the dividend and the numerator of the divisor to get the denominator of the quotient. After that, if it's an improper fraction convert it into a mixed number. Lastly, put it into lowest terms.

The second way you can find the answer is by using a common factor. The first thing you do is to convert any mixed numbers into an improper fraction. Next, you find a common factor. After you convert the fractions so they have a common factor, you will easily find the quotient. The numerator of the quotient is the same as the numerator of the dividend and the denominator of the quotient is the same as the numerator of the divisor. After that, you turn the improper fraction into a mixed number. Lastly, you put it into lowest terms.

First I converted the mixed fraction into an improper fraction to make it easier to multiply. To convert it, I multipled the denominator by the whole number and then I added the numerator. So the improper fraction would be 6/5.

So then I change the equation to 6/5 x 2/5. After, I multiply the numerators together and the Denominators together. The answer is 12/25.

2 3/5 x 3 4/5

For this question, I have to convert the mixed fractions into improper fractions like I did in the above question. So the new equation is, 13/5 x 19/5. Then multiple the numerators together and the denominators together. The answer is 182/25, but the simplified answer is 7 22/25

Part 1
In math, we were taught how to divide and multiply fractions with whole numbers.

This is my fraction quiz, and it will show you how I answered all the questions.

I will show you two ways to multiply a fraction with a whole number.

ex. 5 x 2/3

One way you can solve it, is by using pictures.

The second way to solve it, was by multiplying the whole number by the numerator of the fraction.

Now, I will show you how to divide a fraction by a whole number.

ex. 1/5 ÷ 2

To divide a fraction by a whole number, you have to draw the fraction first. You divide the whole into 5 parts, since the fraction is 1/5 as shown on the left in the picture. Then, to divide it by a whole number, you have to put a horizontal line across to show that you're dividing the fraction into 2.

Finally, I had to pick a word problem and show you how to solve it.

A pitcher of orange juice is 2/3 full. If four students equally share the juice, what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get?

To solve this problem, we have to divide a whole into thirds, and colour in 2 parts. Now, since the orange juice is equally shared with four people, you have to divide the 2/3 into 4 with horizontal lines, as showed in the picture.

Simple sentence answer: Each student gets 2/12 or 1/6 of the orange juice.

Part 2 - Multiplying

This part of the fraction growing post is about multiplying fractions with mixed numbers, and improper fractions.

First, I will show you how to multiply a fraction with a fraction.
To multiply fractions, all you have to do is multiply the numerators and the denominators to get your answer as shown in the picture below.

Now I will show you how to multiply a mixed fraction with a fraction.

All you need to do, is convert the mixed fraction into an improper fraction, which makes it easier to multiply. Now, since the number became 39/56, that is the answer. I cannot simplify the fraction, so you just have to leave it that way.

Lastly, this is how to multiply mixed numbers, with mixed numbers.

To multiply two mixed numbers, you have to convert them both to improper fractions. Then, Ms. U taught us a way to convert an improper fraction back to a mixed number.

Who goes in the house? The numerator does.

Who's knocking on the door? The denominator does.

Then, you have to find out how many times 16 (or who ever is 'knocking on the door') goes into 121 (the one that's in the house). Then that's the whole number you put on the top. Next, you have to multiply the number on the top which is 7, and the number knocking on the door which is 16. Now you have to subtract 112 from 121. Since that gives you 9, that is the numerator of the fraction that goes with the mixed fraction.

Part 3 - Dividing Fractions

Explain:

1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 = 2

The way I solved this, was I used cross multiplication, or whatever that's called. :P But first, I converted the mixed number into an improper fraction, to help me multiply the fractions faster. Then, now that I have the 2 fractions, I multiplied the denominator of the first fraction, and the numerator of the second number, which makes the denominator of the answer. Next, I multiplied the numerator of the first fraction, and the denominator of the second fraction, which makes the numerator of the answer. That's how I got 12/6. :D

3/4 ÷ 1/2 = 6/4 or 1 1/2

I did the same thing for this question, but I just didn't have to convert the mixed fraction into an improper because there is no mixed fraction. :)

For a word problem you need to read the question and find the key words then highlight them . While your doing a word problem, you need a simple sentence.
Key Words : Pitcher of orange juice 2/3 full. Four students What fraction of the full pitcher does each student get ?

Simple Sentence : Each student gets 1/6 of the full pitcher. How I got the answer : First find the multiple of 4 in the denominator that is 3 which equals to 12 then multiple 2 by 4 which equals to 8, then divide 8 into4 because there is 4 students, your answer will be 2/12 = 1/6.

In class we learned how to multiply, divide, add and subtract fractions with whole numbers.
Here is my fraction quiz, this shows how i got my answers.

Now we had to pick a question from page 202, 208-209, and a word problem on page 208.

Two ways to multiply a fraction is to use a diagram or using fraction chart.
You can add up all the halves, or you could times the numerators together and multiply the denominators to get your answer.

Now we have to pick a question from page 208-209.
To divide a fraction by a whole number is simple. First you draw a picture and cut it into the fraction your dividing with, and shade in the part of the whole. After that is done, divide the diagram by the whole number in your equation. you divide the diagram using a horizontal line.

Finally you will have to solve it. To solve this equation i used a fraction strip and divided it into 3rds and colored in 2/3 of it. Next I divided the strip in 4 vertical and colored in 2 rectangles giving me my answer.

a) fraction x fraction: when you multiply a fraction by fraction, the first step is to multiply the two numerators. Then multiply the two denominators. Once you are done that you must simply your fraction if it is not yet.

b)fraction x mixed number: When you multiply a mixed number and a fraction the first step is to convert the mixed number into an improper fraction by multiplying the whole by the denominator and the adding the numerator. once you get the improper fraction, you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators. If your answer is an improper fraction, you have to change it back to a mixed number by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Then put in it lowest terms. But if your answer is a proper fraction, you just simply it to the lowest terms.

4 7/8 x 1/7 = 39/56

c)mixed number x mixed number: When you multiply mixed numbers you have to change them into improper fractions. next, you multiply the numerators and denominators. After that, you turn that improper fraction back into a mixed number. Once everything is done we simply it .

2 1/3 x 2 1/3 = 14/9

How many 3/4's are there in 1 1/2?

To answer this equation first you draw 1 1/2 color in the whole and 1/2. next divide 1/2 into 4th. finally count how many times 3 goes into 1 1/2

To answer this equation first you draw 3/4. Next you draw a line going across to draw the 1/2. The numerator of the half is 1, so how many times does 1 goes into the shades squares? 6 times.

In our past few math classes, we learned how to multiply and divide fractions.

Here is a video showing what I did correctly on the fraction quiz and what I did wrong. I will show you the correct work for the questions I got wrong.

I will now show you how to multiply a fraction by a whole number using one of the questions on page 202 of our Math Links textbook.

I chose to do my example on the question 5 x 2/3.

To find the answer:
- you could add 2/3 5 times, like this:

- you could have 5/1 x 2/3 and multiply the numerator and denominator of each fraction like this:

Next, I will show you how to divide a fraction by a whole number using one of the questions on page 208 of our Math Links textbook.

The question I chose as my example is 1/3 ÷ 3.

To find the answer:

- use a diagram showing a fraction strip divided into 1/3 then you divide that 1/3 into 3 portions using horizontal lines, as shown in this picture:

Lastly, I will chose a word problem to solve from page 208 of our Math Links textbook.

Problem: A pitcher of orange juice is 2/3 full. If four students equally share the juice, what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get?

What you have to do to solve it:

- find the key words in the question that will help you solve the problem

The key words in this question is 2/3, four students, and what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get.

- you now have to make a simple sentence answer

Each student gets ___ of the full pitcher of orange juice.

- you can now solve the problem

To solve the problem, I drew a fraction strip and divided that into 2/3, then I divided that 2/3 into 4 portions using horizontal lines. Since our numerator is 2, you then have to shade in 2 rectangles in the new fraction strip that contains 12 rectangles.

Each student gets 2/12 or 1/6 of the full pitcher of orange juice.

Part 2:

For part 2 of my fraction growing post, I will be showing you how to multiply fractions.

1) Multiplying a fraction by a fraction

To multiply a fraction by a fraction, you will have to multiply the 2 numerators and the 2 denominators. When you have done that you will then have to put the fraction into its simplest terms if possible.

2) Multiplying a fraction by a mixed number

To multiply a fraction by a mixed number you will have to convert the mixed number into an improper fraction. To do that you will have to multiply the whole number by the denominator and then add the numerator. Once you have done that you will have to multiply the numerators and the denominators. If the product you get is an improper fraction you will have to convert it to a mixed number in lowest terms. If the product you get is a proper fraction, all you have to do is put it in its simplest terms.

3) Multiplying a mixed number by a mixed number

To multiply a mixed number by a mixed number you will have to convert both mixed numbers into an improper fraction. You will again have to multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator. Once you get the improper fraction you will have to multiply the numerators and the denominators. When you get the product as an improper fraction you will have to convert it back to a mixed number. To do that you will have to find how many times the denominator goes into the numerator. After converting, you will have to put it in its simplest terms.

Part 3:

For today's class we wrote some notes on dividing fractions in our foldable. We were also asked to do 2 questions and show how we got our answer.

One of the questions were: 1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 = 2

How many 3/4 are there in 1 1/2 ?

Answer: 2

What I did was I drew 2 fraction strips and divided each into 4 portions. I divided it into 4 because you have to find how many 3/4s are in 1 1/2. I then colored all 4 portions in one strip to represent 1 in 1 1/2 then I shaded 2 portions in the other to represent 1/2 in 1 1/2. Now I found how many 3/4s are in 1 1/2 and I got 2 3/4s in 1 1/2.

Here is a picture to show what I did:

The other question was : 3/4 ÷ 1/2 = 6

How many 1/2s are in 3/4?

Answer: 6

To find the answer I drew a fraction strip and divided that into 4's. After that, I divided the strip into a half to represent 1/2. I came up with 8 little squares in my fraction strip. I now colored in 6 little squares altogether because if you looked at the strip without the half it looks like you colored 3/4. Since you technically colored 6 little squares in, that becomes your answer.

One way you could solve the problem is drawing a diagram to show how you did it.

Another way you could solve the problem is multiplying the numerator of a fraction by the other fractions numerator and multiplying one fractions denominator by the other fractions denominator.

eg. 6 x 1/4

c) Next, I will explain how to divide a fraction by a whole number using a question from page 208.

When you divide a fraction by a whole number one of the best ways to solve the problem is with a diagram.

You draw the original fraction, then you make a fraction of that fraction.

eg. 1/4 o/o 2 = 1/8

So you take 1/4. Then you split 1/4 in two. So you end up with 1/8. You get 1/8 because you have to divide all the 1/4's into two so there would be 8 pieces.

d) Finally I will solve one word problem from page 208.

7. A pitcher of orange juice is 2/3full. If four students equally share the juice, what fraction of the full pitcher does each student get?

The question is asking us 2/3 o/o 4 students.

This is how I got my answer:

First I drew 2/3. Next, for each third, I split each one of them into 4th's. Next I filled in 2 squares because the original fraction was 2/3.

When you count up all the squares, there are 12 squares.

The fraction is 2/12.
Each Student gets 2/12 of the juice.

Fraction x Fraction

When you multiply a fraction by a fraction, you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators to get a new fraction.

eg.

Fraction x Mixed Number
When you are multiplying a mixed number by a fraction you convert the mixed number by multiplying the whole number by denominator then adding the numerator of the fraction. Then you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators.
eg.

Mixed Number x Mixed Number
When you are multiplying mixed numbers by mixed numbers, you convert the mixed numbers by multiplying the whole number by the denominator then adding the numerator of the mixed number. Then you multiply the two numerators and two denominators. Next you convert the new fraction back to a mixed number if the fraction is really big and can't be simplified.

eg,

PART 3

Today we wrote down how to divide fractions and mixed numbers. We also had to answer 2 questions.

1 1/2 -/- 3/4

Which means "How many 3/4 in 1 1/2."

Now I will how show how to convert fraction by multiplying, dividing and how to figure out a word problem

Multiplication

There's two ways that you can multiply a fraction. One way is you can use a diagram.
You can put 1/2 in to 4 pieces. It would equal 4/2 or 2.
Another way is use equivalent fractions.
You can do that by multiplying both denominator and numerator.

Division
To divide a fraction first of all, you have to draw a diagram.
After you can it to fraction pieces. Then you can shade how much you are dividing.
Another way is to multiply the denominator and how much is dividing it too.
You leave the numerator the same.

Word Problem
Iqaluit has frost on about 3/4 of the days in a year. It has frost on five times as many days as Vancouver. On what fraction of the days of the year does Vancouver have
frost?

Part 2

Fraction times Fraction
All you have to do is multiply both denominator and both numerator.
So We got here 3/4 x 4/5
You multiply 3x4=12 to get the numerator.
To get the denominator you multiply 4x5=20.
Which equals 12/20 to simplify you divide both denominator and numerator by 4. And it will give you 3/5.

Mixed Number X Fraction

First of all you make the mixed number to a fraction. You do that by multiplying the whole number by the denominator.
So 1x2=2 after that you add 1. So you would get 3/2
Now you multiply 3/2 and 1/4.
It would equal 3/8.

Mixed number X Mixed Number

If you're multiplying a mixed number and a mixed number all you do is convert it to fractions.
2x10+6=26
24x2+1=49
26/10 x 49/2= 1274/20.
Simplify 637/10.
Divide 637/10=63and7/10

PART 3

Dividing Fractions
IF you're dividing fractions.
You multiply the numerator by the other denominator.
So for here we got 3/4 divide 1/2. We multiply those fractions. So we got 6/4.

Now we divide the 6/4.
So the equals. 1 1/2

1 and 1/2 divided by 3/4

For this you have to figure out what 1 1/2 as a fraction so you multiply the denominator and the whole number. So you get 3/2.
Now you multiply First you have to multiply 1 by 2 then you multiply 3 by 4.
So you get
12/2

Now you divide 12/2
12/2=6
So there is 6 wholes

This video shows how I got the answers to my Fraction Quiz.

Now I'm going to explain two ways to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

One way would be drawing 4 groups of 1/2

Another way would be to multiply the two numerators.

Now I'm going to explain how to divide a fraction by a whole number.

My example is 1/4 ÷ 2.

Use your fraction strip and divide it into fourths. Then color in 1/4 of it. Next you divide your fraction strip in half as seen in the picture.

Next we have to answer a word problem.

12) It takes 4/5 of a roll of ribbon to wrap six packages. What fraction of a roll does it take to wrap three packages?

It would take 2/5 of a roll to wrap three packages.

I found that out because if 4/5 of a roll of ribbon wraps six packages you can just divide 4/5 by 2 and get 2/5 which would wrap three packages.

Then you multiply the two improper fractions .

7/6 x 8/7 = 56/42 or 4/3 or 1 1/3

Part One: What is "Pay it Forward"?

After seeing this inspiring movie, I realized how important it is to pay it forward. It is important to pay it forward because it just doesn't make a difference on the person you helped but rather the whole world. This movie sends a strong message to many people and I am glad to have seen this movie because it's going to inspire me to do the same thing Trevor did. For me, paying it forward means helping a person and asking them to help another person which will result in making a difference in our world. By doing this, people will realize that it's time to do something to help make a difference. This is certainly something I am willing to do and I will attempt to get others involved as well.

Part Two: Our Act of Kindness

Our group involved four people, Binesi, Mary Jane, Faye, and I. For our act of kindness, we decided to make bracelets and sell them to help get a polio vaccination for a community in Africa. We were very fortunate to get a spot at the book fair to sell the bracelets. We completed our act of kindness during the parent teacher conference which was on Thursday night and Friday morning/afternoon.

Part Three: The Experience

I thought that our act of kindness went fantastic. Our goal was to sell all of the bracelets and raise $175.00. I was so happy to have reached our goal and knowing that we helped a community in Africa put a smile on my face.

At first I was afraid that no one would buy our bracelets and so we wouldn't be able to raise enough money. In case that happened, we were prepared to do something else but I wasn't ready to give up. Our sale was going slow at first but none of us wanted to give up. To make our sale go a bit faster, we decided to make posters and walk around the hallways to see if we could get more people interested in buying our bracelets. Along the way, there were many people who stopped to read our sign and asked "what does pay it forward mean"? We briefly told them what it meant and I was pretty sure those people stopped by the library to check out our merchandise. To get even more people interested, we decided to ask for requests of what color the customer would like their bracelet to be and that we would customize it for them. Many people bought our merchandise including teachers, parents, students, and even the staff in the office. At the end I thought it was a very successful experience and we managed to reach our goal of $175.00.

As we were doing our act of kindness, I felt good about what we were doing. I had that warm feeling that everyone said that we would get and it made me smile. I was so happy to know that we were actually going to help the community in Africa and help them live a better life. I'm sure that the rest of the group had the same feeling I had. Hopefully the people who bought our bracelets payed it forward. I would certainly like to do this again and this is an experience I will never forget.

I would like to give special mention to the people who helped out which were: Sharmaine, Jerick, and Noelle. I would like to thank them for helping us achieve our goal and hopefully they had fun.

Part Four: Why is this important?

The idea of pay it forward is important because it will make a difference in our world. By this I mean that you will not just help someone out because you are expecting something in return. You do this because you want to help make a difference and put a smile into people's faces without getting anything in return.

I think that our act of kindness has made a difference because we didn't just do it because we were asked to but rather because we wanted to. Hopefully the community in Africa will now live a better life and that we were able to put a smile on each and everyone of their faces.

How to find TSA (Total Surface Area) or a rectangular Prism..

Lets get starts, first things first.
You Make your Rectangular Prism that you want to know what the TSA of it.

A ≈ 3.14 × 0.3752
